tell them you need an emergency appointment, mine usually accommodate children

bonym · 23/09/2005 13:38

Tell them it's an emergency - they'll have to fit you in. If they still refuse, ask to speak to the doctor (rather than receptionist) - might be a bit more understanding.

Catbert · 23/09/2005 13:39

Weird - normally they have emergency appointments, which could mean - depending on your surgerty - that you come in at a certain time and wait, or that you call first thing in the morning / afternoon (beginning of appointment times) and "bagsy" your emergency appointment.

This is when I thank my lucky stars that my surgery is always VERY understanding the moment I mention it's for my daughter and I am worried about something. However, for me I have to wait 2 weeks like everyone else!

jen93 · 23/09/2005 13:45

i did phone first thing this morning and said i was worried but the receptionist wasn't very understanding. my doctors no longer runs an out of hours surgery and are shut tomorrow.

Do you have an NHS Walk-In Centre in your area?

alicats · 23/09/2005 14:29

Call NHS Direct on 0845 4647 or

www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk

They are very helpful and will give you advise and tell you whether you need to go to A & E.

But normally when it comes to children especially young ones the surgeries offer emergency appointments.

I hope it all goes well and your dd is ok x

vickitiredmum · 23/09/2005 14:31

Braver than me NDP!

Go to A & E if your docs are adament they cannot do emergency appointments and cant direct you to appropriate cover (walk in centre etc)
