Poorly boy and medised?

Ds is poorly, he has had a cold for a few days and has a bad cough. In between he is wheezing.
He seems to have grown out of croup (he is 2y 2m) but has this wheeze on occasion. Im convinced that it is not an asthmatic wheeze, more a phlegm in upper airways wheeze.
I gave him some medised at 10ish and he wouldnt settle. Put him down for a sleep about 15 mins ago and he went out like a light.
His cough is much better today.
Do i leave him to sleep for as long as he needs after medised or wake him after an hour or so?
I have had 3 hours sleep as he was up last night from 12mn till 4.30 am, then up for the day at 6.45 so he will be tired.
What would you do?

Let him sleep donbean, I remember asking mn virtually the same question a few months ago and the concensus was to let him kip.

If he's ill. I'd let him sleep tbh. I'm a great believer in letting children sleep things off, and I'd suggest you have a little lie down with him too

Im not one for regimented routines so much and leave them to sleep - always. Especially if they are ill, and especially after Medised - fantastic stuff. Actually gave myself some the other night with my cold! But you know your child best and what extra sleep does to them..... hope he gets better soon.

personally, when my son is sick, i let him sleep as long as he wants, and give him loads of cuddles

vickitiredmum · 23/09/2005 11:53

As for the wheezing - i would personally would always get a bad cough or wheeze checked out just to be sure.

You really need to worry if they start pulling their tummy right in to breathe or you see their neck sucking in when they breathe.

Donbean · 23/09/2005 11:59

Thanks, i think i will leave him.
As i say, the wheeze isnt an ashmatic one and its not affecting his breathing, im not concerned about it, i think it is the result of secretions.
His sleep is so fitful. he has just woken up soaked in sweat and hysterical. Gone straight back down with cuddles and reasurance.
Think i may join him, feeling like death.

donbean - does he have fever/temperature?

Donbean · 23/09/2005 12:32

Erm, he feels hot but there is paracetamol in the medised and so that will bring his temp down.
TBH i dont tend to take his temp because it will just tell me what i already know, he has a temp! .
Last night he woke up after a bad dream, im sure that he has just had another and so is sweaty from that.
Ive got a fan on in his room and the window is open.

Why do you ask koala, do you think he could have some thing? Is there a bug or some thing going round at the mo?
