Getting reffered to ENT ebout tonsils - chances of removal?

I only have itabout 4 times a year, am falling under the magic 5/6 times that the NHS wants to remove them. Saw Dr yesterday and I asked what the number was (even though I knew) and he said he would write to ENT for me on the basis of them being huge, crypts and getting tonsillitis quite a lot.

When I was in hosp for asthma a dr told me if ENT saw me they would remove them, and its GPs that are being told not to reffer to many people. So have I managed to get past the most difficult hurdle? How likely is ENT to remove the fuckers?

I seem to get itat worst times - when nervous, anxious and cant sleep you can garuntee a few days later..white spots.

Like me your tonsilitus starts when stressed so its not bacterial(ie not an infection) then its viral and you have a weakness in the throat. I was told that he would do it but it wouldnt stop my sore throat and since Ive managed my stress then its not occured again. I was also concerned that after removal I would still get that sore neck and feeling that my glands were swollen.

There can be terrible side effects from having them removed a relative of mine has had her hearing damaged. Lazer treatments are the best.

Perhaps managing the stress and anxiety may help and have a possitive knock on effect?

Does you asthma get worse when your tonsils are bad? If so, that is likely to persuade ENT to remove them.

I have been getting tonsilitis regularly since I had DS who is 3.2. I used to suffer with mild sore throats as a teenager.

I sometimes get the white spots but mainly (like at the moment) I have a hugely inflamed red right tonsil.

I saw a private ENT for a different problem (outer ear infections) and had inflamed tonsils at the time and he looked at them for me and said I have chronic tonsilitis - which occaisionally flares up into acute.

He says that bacteria can hide in crypts and antibiotics can't get in to kill it so it rumbles down and them rumbles up again.

He did say that rather than too many tonsilectomys (sp?)) which there used to be there are now possibly not enough and people are suffering. He said the # of attacks per year is not as important as the total ompact on quality of life etc.

I could have this op privately but am a bit scared by the thought of the GA and that I'd still get sore throats.

bacon - what did you do to sucessfully manage your stress levels. I decided that rather than having the op I had better make a decent stab at improving my health...

Can't seem to get started though...
