broken toe?

I think I've broken my little toe. It's bruised and more to the point I can't move it at all. Do I need to go to A and E or can I just strap it to the next one and wait for it to get better? I'm not scared of hospitals or anything- it's just a pain as there's no way I can take ds1 with me- so I would have to go this evening- and I can think of places I'd rather be on a Friday evening.

My DH did this last year (kicking a football) and sat in casualty for ages and ages while shunted from triage (eek, sp.?) to a doctor, waiting for ex rays and back to a doctor. All they did was agree that it was broken (two smallest ones) and that there was nothing they could do really...just advised rest, elevation (I think - Dh disagrees but I think they said this) and to take painkillers if necessary. They sort of strapped them together with tape but it came off the same evening in the bath anyway.
TBH was a waste of time going as we were pretty sure anyway. If you are unsure or worried then by all means go. Equally if your whole foot starts going black or swelling up etc.then get it checked obviously. If still undecided ring your GP and see if he/she can look at it for you early evening and give their opinion. Whateveryou do, you have our sympathies - according to DH it really really hurts
Hope you are feeling better soon.

sorry posts crossed with Batters - NHS direct sounds a sensible move.

Go and see your GP, jus go there on spect and smarm the receptionist until they let you see the doc. Or the practice nurse....she may be the best bet.(If you can manage that with ds.) They should be able to strap it up for you. Poor you. I wish there was more I could do to help, but failing that, am sending best wishes for a swift recovery.

They won't do anything but strap it Jimjams, much like a finger, so i wouldn't bother unless it gets extremely swollen or discoloured. Hope it starts to feel better soon.

Going to the GP's is just as imposible with ds1 as going to A and E unfortunately. I'm going for the strap it up and ignore it routine. I think it must be one of those days as I've just had a flat tyre.

Try some ice or Arnica gel to bring out the bruising quickly and minimise swelling. If it looks really misshapen then I think you'd need to do something - could you visit A and E or emergency dr tomorrow morning if someone could look after ds's ?
