pain in back radiating to shoulder

Just wondered if anyone had any ideas. Last night I was woken by a dreadful pain in my back (mostly right sided) that radiated up into my right shoulder. It also radiated sometimes around to my stomach. I felt quite sick, and was actually sick once. This went on for around 5 hours, and finally faded in the early hours of this morning. I feel fairly OK today with no pain. I'd intended to get an emergency GP appt, but as it all resolved I didn't. Any ideas of what it might be?
Thanks for your toughts

could you be pregnant?

giddly · 22/11/2010 14:35

Pavlov - no - chances probably lower than an immaculate conception (though you've got me panicking now!)

Gallstones I reckon.

Off to the GP with you.

ok, i was thinking possible ectopic, that is all. How about kidney infection? when I had that, it radiated up my back and towards my shoulder, sometimes my stomach and it made me vomit, came and went for a while before it got bad. I had a fever with it, but not a high grade one so did not really notice. where in your back does the pain start/is worse?

Thanks for your replies - much appreciated.

I did wonder about an infection but don't have a fever, and the pain faded quite quickly.
Also thought of gallstones or kidney stones, but wondered if I was being drama queen. For some reason my computer is blocking your link sidge.

Oh it's only a Bupa factsheet.
Try Googling it, there are loads of links.

I was going to say gallbladder as well.

It can cause acute painful episodes and in between you feel Ok.

Go to the doc and ask to be referred, don't leave it.

Gallstones, for sure. Have had them. Get to a GP!

BeenBeta · 22/11/2010 18:19

That is gallstones.

The pain in the right shoulder blade is a classic and combined with the other symptoms should tell any GP to get you an ultrasound scan straight away.

sounds like gallstones...had my gall bladder out last year after similar symptoms
