Sicky bug twice in a month..............

DS2(26months) has been up since about 2am being sick about every hour. At the moment he's flaked out on the sofa looking very pale.
The thing that I'm concerned about is that he had this sort of thing almost a month to the day ago although not sick quite so often, still alot though.
I'm waiting to speak to the Doctor on the phone(not until after lunch though) as being 8 months PG and taking him and DS1 on a bus to see the Doc is not very appealing at the moment. He doesn't seem to have a temp and we all ate the same things yesterday so I thought I delve into the wealth of knowledge on here for a bit of reassurance.
Do you think it's just a fluke that it's been twice so close together or should I be worried it's something more serious.......Like I'm not worried already!!!

BTW he's even struggling to keep water down so any suggestions on keeping him hydrayed would help too.

Thanks ladies.

Not much advice I'm afraid, but ds had something very similar in March/April this year (he was 6 months). GP said it was gastric flu. It came back (though not as violent) a few weeks later and this time GP said it was slapped cheek syndrome and prescribed capol.

It may be because your ds2 been laid so low the first time that he's really susceptible to every bug flying around at the moment, where he'd normally fight it off.

Someone else might have suggestions for rehydration though.

slapped cheek syndrome??????Please tell

Bobsmum · 21/08/2003 10:41

I'd heard of it before vaguely. As far as I understand, it has the symptoms of a bad cold, but with sickness too. Your face also looks like you've had a big slap! Honest!
Need to do a google search - don't call social services!!

Bobsmum · 21/08/2003 10:44

Found it!

EmmaTMG · 21/08/2003 10:46

Kids being sick is very wearing EmmaTMG, especially when your pg and tired anway ... you have my sympathies. Has he stopped being sick yet? Take it VERY slowly re-introducing food if he has been vomiting so much. Mine have very fragile stomachs, and I aim for 24 hrs on just water, then 24 hours with just white bread and banana, then 3 days on other low-risk foods; otherwise they just start being sick again, and you're back to square one. Once he's fully recovered he'll be ravenous for a week or so, and will soon catch up.

I think twice in a month could well be just fluke chance, though.

Tip: I read somewhere recently, is to avoid any foodstuffs whatsoever when children are sick, and given them plain water little and often. a few small sips every 15 mins and they can drink 1.5 litres over a day, which is enough to keep them hydrated. To much water in one go is as bad a food on the stomach and may cause vomitting again.

Fingers crossed but he seems back to normal today........quite strange actually as you'd never know to look at him that yesterday he was such a poorly little man.
He's had half a cup of milk, which I know is the worst thing for sicky belly, but it has stayed down and he's sitting on the floor with DS1 drawing at the moment.

The sick catching bowl is right next to him though and I'm afraid the wonderful Mumsnet only has half my attention while I listen out for him saying 'Mama.....Sick'

I think I'll wait for him to ask for something to eat just to be on the safe side.

Thanks ladies.....

Ohhh I forgot to say that the only thing that would stay down yesterday was water with sugar in it. Plan water just came straight back up within about 20 minutes.

So incase anyone else has the same problem that's my tip. I diluted about 3-4 teaspoons of sugar in a pint of water and he drunk that throughout the day without it making him sick.
