I've just been to the vestibule doctor.
While she was examining me she asked me to bear down. I did so forgetting I had my Mooncup in.
'Ooooh! I notice you have ...er ... something in there'. She says.
'Oh my Gosh! I'm so sorry. That's my Mooncup. I'd forgotton'.
'No, no that's fine'. She smiled. 'What is a Mooncup?'

Can you believe it? And this in in Brighton where you can't move for Mooncups.

yes I can - I'd never heard of them until mn and I've been around a long time

Mum2girls · 20/09/2005 16:19

me too JT

happymerryberries · 20/09/2005 16:23

LMAO at 'You can't move for moon cups'

What a great image that provokes!

princesspeahead · 20/09/2005 16:25

somehow "moocup" doesn't seem so bad, though. Images of doe-eyed jersey cows in sunlit-dappled pastures...

gingerbear · 20/09/2005 16:28

at MOO-cups!!
Didn't think cows needed them.
I can just see the new Anchor advert now....

mandymac · 20/09/2005 16:33

My sister went to her (male) very posh Harley St gyny recently and totally forgot she was wearing a jokey cartoon t-shirt saying 'cute beaver' with picture of said toothy rodent on it - I kid you not! .

chloe55 · 20/09/2005 16:34

What is a mooncup? Is it a diaphragm?

spidermama · 20/09/2005 16:37

Mandymac.

My visit was a surreal experience. They led me into a room and said, Just pop your trousers off and lie there. There's a paper sheet to cover you'.

What's the point of draping a paper sheet over yourself when the doctor's going to be examining your vestibule at close range. Is it really necessary?

I really love this idea I soooooooooooo am going to get a mooncup

trinityrocks · 20/09/2005 19:27

could we name them?? what do you think??? maybe daisy, coochie, tinkerbell!!!

morningpaper · 20/09/2005 19:29

I've never been asked to 'bear down' - why do they ask you that then?

Can't BELIEVE she hadn't heard of it!!!

Lonelymum · 20/09/2005 19:32

Great way to start my evening Spidermama. Thanks for that! Glad the gynae (loved vestibule doctor!) hadn't heard of them. It makes me feel better that an expert in the field knows nothing about something that has escaped my knowledge before MN too.

tissy · 20/09/2005 19:52

I had to see a gynaecologist about my fibroid, and he asked how heavy my periods were... I was able to tell him, day 1 about 6 fl.oz, day 2 about 4 fl.oz etc. he looked a bit non-plussed, and I took pity on him and explained why I was able to be so accurate! They usually measure flow in pads- well that's not very accurate, is it? I mean 6 super pads a day doesn't mean much does it? It depends on how sodden they are when changed!

spidermama · 20/09/2005 20:00

Tiss that's great.

Misdee I didn't have to educate her. Her assistant knew and explained. Something tells me the Vestibule Doc was a little humilitated about that.

I just don't understand how she could have missed it as there are stickers and booklets advertising the Mooncup all over Brighton (in shops, cafes, libraries and public loos). You'd think in her business she'd have come across it before.

I was embarrassed to have forgotton it was in there. What a banana brain. I'd even rehearsed saying, 'I've got my period at the moment ... blah blah' then just forgot.
