My hormones seem all out of kilter, any ideas?

I'm going to make an appointment with my GP but just wondered if anyone else has had this? Basically, I came off all contraception in January this year. I'd had the Mirena since having DS, then I went onto the pill but stopped it because it made me feel terrible, so since Jan I've not been taking anything.

My periods were very heavy in the beginning, but this was normal for me (I went on the pill at 14 for this reason) and then seemed to settle down, although didn't have much of a pattern to them. My 'usual' (although it may not be!) cycle is 34 days, but my cycles were anywhere from 25 days to 42 days. Then I started getting even more spots on my chin and just feeling generally hormonal. I've found a few black hairs on my cheek and chin Blush which I've never had before, I'm sweating a lot more than I usually do, and I constantly feel on the verge of coming on - you know the little twinges you get in your stomach? I seem to have these all through the month.

The reason I'm posting now is because I'm now 23 days late coming on. I assume it's not going to happen this month! This is the third time it's happened since January, and I'm definitely not pregnant.

It just seems like something has 'tripped' inside of my and my hormones have gone haywire. I've tried EPO to no avail.

I did google, but it's obviously not a good idea. Has anyone been through anything similar?

Thanks, and sorry for such a long post!

No more google searches!!

I would ask the GP when you see him to refer you to a gynaecologist for further evaluation. These sorts of problems are not for a GP to try and treat and or mess around with. Do not take no for an answer!.

The underlying CAUSE of the heaviness of period should be determined properly (fibroids for instance can cause heavy bleeding); the pill masks the symptoms and does not treat the problem.

What you describe in terms of irregularity of cycle and hairs could possibly be attributed to PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome).

Seek proper medical advice from a gynae and insist on your GP referring you asap.

Thanks Attila :) haha, no more google searches - I'll convince myself I've got ebola or something!

Thanks very much for your reply. I was thinking along the lines of PCOS, definitely some sort of hormonal imbalance and it seems to get slightly worse each month so definitely need to see my GP. I'm going to make an appointment tomorrow I think.

I think the heavy periods, in my case are genetic. My mum was the same, she had a hyseterectomy in her early 30's because of it. But I'll mention it anyway.
