my DS2 had threadworms for near on 6 months last year and they refused to go with every single treatment available, and having microbiology dont to try to find a way of combatting them, they only seemed to go when he got sick. now they are back and after one night up with him crying most of the night im on the hunt for something to get rid of them! an old lady told me to give him a savoy cabbage heart raw and to make sure he uses the potty as the main culprate will expose itself from the gut. is this worth a try? no one else in the house has them. he is just 6....

I've heard of a rather strange cure using surgical tape, but it does sound a little odd. I've no idea if it works, luckily we've not been blighted by that particular ill yet!

Anyway, the cure: Buy some Micropore tape or something similar. It needs to be about 50mm wide. Cut a piece that long enough to cover his anus completely, then stick it to him, making sure that the edges are totally stuck down. You need to do this just before he goes to bed, then remove it and wash the area thoroughly in the morning. I think the idea is that the nasty little bu**ers try to migrate tot he entrance to lay eggs, get stuck on the tape, then can't lay eggs or get back.

Like I said, I've no idea if it will work, and tbh, it sounds like an old wives tale to me. But, it might be worth trying if you are desperate?

I have a similar problem with my 8 yr old. No one else in the house gets them, but he has them on a regular basis. I put teatree oil in the bath which helps, and have just been given an article by a friend with some natural remedies:
-black walnut tincture
-grapefruit seed extract
-cut out sweets and processed foods
-zinc oxide cream to stop itching
-garlic
Don't think you're meant to do them all at once necessarily! Thought I might give the grapefruit seed extract a go the next time I'm near a health food shop.

Have you tried any homeopathic remedies? I got one, called Cina 30mg, on prescription (open-minded gp!), and it worked a treat on both dd and myself (can be used whilst breastfeeding too!)

Just as an aside, my gp told me that if you have threadworms you don't suffer from hayfever, nobody knows why though....

hi ive heard that eating garlic and onions works. Try cooking a dinner which has both in it, then give your child a bath put clean sheets on the bed and clean pjs, put them to bed.
Next morning bath again use a treatment then again that evening have the same dinner as the night before. Bath again, clean sheets, clean pjs bed, next morning bath. (never share bedding, clothing or towels even after washing your hands after going to the toilet. and also you will need to hoover and clean every part of your house as the eggs go everywhere but cannot be seen by the naked eye.) i know its alot of hard work but that is what i had to do with my two year old and it worked. forgot to say everyone in the family should be treated at the same time whether they have it or not. I hope this helps.
