Hi nathollyandmatthew.

The part in your post about 'episodes like seizures' caught my attention.

All three of my sons (even though breastfed) suffered with Reflux as babies to varying degrees, although mainly it sorted itself out once they started solids. However, my middle son also suffered (and although now 6, does still have some 'episodes')from a condition which was much later diagnosed as Reflex Anoxic Seizures (RAS), which, although nothing at all to do with Reflux, was probably not helped by him having the Reflux too.

Why? Well, RAS is a condition which can be brought upon by an unexpected pain or sensation. Basically, we now believe that his 'seizures' as a baby were intensified because of the Reflux pain he was experiencing at the same time, although he also had seizures as a result of other pains.

It may not be the same with your son, but please do have a look at the section on RAS on the STARS website and see what you think.

hi ya i have looked at that site b4 matthew was diagnosed as the hosp mentioned it b4 the tests where done

tehy havent actauly names these epidoses as they and us where convinced he had epilespy, after alot of tesst not epilepsy could b found only reflux, so that is y they link the episodes 9seizures) to the reflux, hes coming off the epilepsy medicine but still need a close eye on incase they get worse

thnaks for replying

RAS is often mis-diagnosed as Epilepsy or even as Breath Holding. Certainly the pain of Reflux could trigger an RAS episode. That is great that your hospital are aware of RAS (and that they suggested the STARS website) as many are still not (although this is improving).

Do give Trudie or one of her helpers at STARS a phone if you need to chat through the possibility of your son having RAS, she/they will be more than happy to give you guidance.

Keep us posted with how things develop.
