Pain in first trimester- normal or should I worry?

I'm 8+1 today, and for the last week or so I've had a dull ache in my lower abdomen. It's not constant, I could feel it for quite a while yesterday but nothing overnight or this morning. It's not really bad, I've never been tempted to reach for a painkiller or anything but it's there. It's central, not at the side but I can feel it more when I'm on the toilet and I've heard that this can be a sign of ectopic pregnancy. So now I'm wondering whether I should get it checked out, but then I think I'm just being completely paranoid and it's probably nothing. Confused Any advice?

The other thing is that over the last three days my morning sickness hasn't been as bad as usual, not sure if that means anything either?

Hi pozzled I am sure it is nothing but if you are worrying then it is always worth having things checked out. If it would put your mind at rest/give you a bit more info, it may be worth checking out the mc threads to chat with someone who has had an ectopic just to see what warning symptoms they had. A friend on mine had an ectopic and she said it was like very severe food poisoning - it is likely you are just fine. There are so many aches and pains (and worries) associated with pregnancy - lucky us. Maybe give your midwife a call in the morning to see what they say and see if you can get an early scan to put your mind at rest.

What pp said but to reassure you until you get to speak to someone I had lots p aches and pains in pregancy both times, alot of the time it felt like the kind of bloated pressured feeling you get just before your period.

Also, my symptoms came and went.

I had 2 healthy pregnancies.

*lots of aches and pains....

Also if anything worsens in terms of pain / bleeding / shoulder pain / generally feeling unwell call NHS direct.

losing symptoms at 8 weeks is a classic sign of pregnancy, so don't worry about that. Grin
and the pain, well, it could be a heap of things... stretching, a grumbly cyst, lots of stuff, no harm to the baby at all. however, there is no harm in getting checked out, is there? i wouldn't freak out, but i would always get things seen to in a pregnancy, no question about it. go to the doc and ask for a scan, and good luck with everything.

Worry is all a part of being pregnant - and a parent - and no, of course you're not sure but when in doubt, always go and get yourself checked. For every hundred (or more) women who have no problem, there is one who does have a problem and doesn't get the help needed.

Definitely go to your GP tomorrow or phone a midwife for advice. If they say you are OK and you continue to feel pain, go back again, if necessary making an appointment with a different doctor. (They are only human and can make mistakes.)

When pregnant the maxim is 'better safe than sorry'.
Hope you are feeling fine, and reassured, soon. Good luck with the pregnancy.

Thanks for all the responses. I haven't really had the ache at all today so I'm not so worried any more, but I will see my GP if it persists or if I get any more symptoms. Also I remembered earlier that there's a lovely mw attached to a childrens centre near my work, so I might have a chat with her.

AitchTwoOh thanks for the reassurance about the morning sickness, that has actually been worrying me more than the ache today so good to hear that it's probably nothing.

Pozzled you sound exactly like me when I was pg! Its such a worrying time, I was constantly thinking I was about to miscarry (I didn't Smile ). Losing symptoms is completely normal, mine used to go away for a few days at a time then come back with a vengeance and I'd be so happy to be throwing up again! I had a lot of cramps early on and the mw said it was just my uterus stretching. My ds was born totally healthy and hes 12mo now. The chances are everythings fine with your baby Smile
