Diagnosis -

Fibromyalgia syndrome
Obesity (BMI 31) Blush
Migraines

and 3 others that I already knew.

Medication -

Duloxetine 60mg once daily instead of citalopram prescribed today.
Amitriptyline 30mg night-time, can be increased to 40-50mg later (not much higher while on SSRI/SNRI)
Citalopram 20mg/day long-standing to be discontinued now (I think this is a possible cause of my weight gain.)

Referred to physiotherapy (not sure why.)

On phone so tricky to do links, but Google the Idiot Proof Diet. Ive lost two stone since July, which doesn't sound amazing but I drink like a fish; would have lost way more if I wasn't such a wino.

phipps · 05/11/2010 19:51

I have not heard of that one, Jenai. I will take a look, thanks.

Oh, it's a low carb diet btw.

Bloody amazing if you ask me. I think custardo is a low carb expert - search MN for some of her threads.

phipps · 05/11/2010 19:53

Sounds almost too good to be true but is $39 so not sure I can do it as I am in the UK.

I'm a bit evangelical about it Grin

It works, basically. Was a bit of a faff to start off with, but losing 7lb in the first fortnight was bloody good motivation.

Hang on! I picked a copy up from Amazon for under £5!

Google Pig to Twig - that's the authors' website.

There seems to have been lots of advice about weight and diet, I just thought I'd say something about migraines. Do you know what triggers migraines for you? If you don't it might be worth looking up common triggers.

One of the most common triggers (and is for me) is missing a meal, or eating it much later than normal so it's really important to eat healthy, regular meals so that your blood sugar doesn't vary too much. There are loads of other things unrelated to food as well, so for me it is flickering lights, the atmospheric pressure change just before a thunderstorm, hormones and stress/tiredness.

phipps · 05/11/2010 20:20

I have no idea what triggers my migraines. There hasn't been a pattern for me to work it out.

It might help to keep a diary, or if that is too much effort, just note down things like what you ate, where you were, how you felt before you got a migraine (e.g., stressed, tired) etc. It can be really hard to identify triggers, especially if there is more than one but if you do note these sort of things then you can start to see if there is any pattern. I have found that working out triggers has really helped me to manage my migraines. You have my sympathy, I know how horrible it is to have migraines with no warning and for no reason! I hope your medication helps.

DancingIceDragons · 05/11/2010 22:05

Lack of sleep is one of my biggest triggers for migraines. but they use amytript. to treat it and it is the medicine that they have suggested that you change to so it is possible that this medicine change means that you dont suffer from them very much at any more.

Why not start Weight watchers? This week it is about to change to a different system so it would be a good time to start. Most fruit and veg is free now. I have been on WW for ages and am not overweight anymore. I have never felt hungry on WW - in fact the opposite. And more than the food, joining a group with PEOPLE in it actually helps you to stay positive and motivated - if I miss a week, I don't do as well. Please seriously consider it as you sound quite low and I'm sure it would perk you up - I find it a good laugh.

Hi everyone, I have bought Neris and India's Idiot-proof diet and Idiot-proof diet cookbook so will see how I get on. I struggle with what I am allowed to drink as I want to try and avoid sugar as much as possible if that is my problem.

I still think there is a thyroid issue as it is in the family and all the women have been big from an older age but I want to try everything I can to lose weight and if it still doesn't happen the GP will have to do more tests.

The book is great, really inspiring. It makes total sense to me. I know I have eating issues but find it hard to explain them to anyone in a way they understand.

Just had tarrogan chicken and cauli mash from the book along with spinach. Tasted lovely but looking at my fitday counter I am not sure how I will lose weight. I haven't done the full day as per the book as I only bought it today but the counter says I have had 2980 calories.

Good luck, phipps :)
