Maxalt Wafers

I have suffered from migraines for years and have been using Beteblockers/Imigran/Botox which kept them at bay pre DD.
They thankfully disappeared when I was pregnant but are now back with a vengeance.
I have heard a few people mention Maxalt wafer on here - what are they and do they work?

They are very similar to Imigran, I think - one of the sumotriptans (sp?).

They worked well for me, and were less 'rough' than Imigran. Poor you, I totally sympathize - I had them during adolescence, then rarely through my 20s and 30s, and they came back in my 40s.

Thankfully, since I hit 50, I haven't had any...but thats no help to you right now!

correction: one of the triptans! Not sure which.

I have maxalt, but the tablets not the wafers. Like you didn't get any migraine when pregnant but arrived back along with my periods when I stopped BF, which makes me thing mine are hormone related (have never pinpointed any other triggers)

For me they work very well, almost like magic, I can feel them taking effect. I get a tightness across my chest / throat / shoulders, and a sort of tingling in the tips of my fingers which feels particularly weird when I put them in water

However that aside, I think they are excellent and certainly work very well for me

I believe the wafers are prescribed for people who get nausea too, easier to stomach than a pill

Ooh great thanks. I throw up if I don't get to the migraine fast enough. I will investigate with my GP. Smile
At least the Botox makes me look less wrecked!

Incidentally, they are more expensive than Imigran - so if your GP seems reluctant, this may be the reason Wink

Ah! he wouldn't prescribe me Imigran injections for this very reason. To be honest unless they are a million quid I would be willing to pay privately for them!
