Quite scared, still bleeding after abnormal smear treatment....

I had a LLETZ procedure (like lasering) over 6 weeks ago after a smear showed borderline changes. The biopsy showed CIN 3 cells, so I guess it was just as well I had the procedure done as they hadn't shown up on the smear.

Was told to expect some bleeding followed by a watery discharge which is what happened at first, but after a few says the discharge started to get darker (TMI?!?) so went to the doctors in case I had an infection.

Doc put me on AB's but almost as soon as I started the course it changed from brownish watery discharge to full on red bleeding... This continued for about 2 weeks despite a double course of further AB's as recommended by the hosital.

Went back to the hospital at the end of the course (about 10 days ago) and they re-quarterised everything (sp?) (OUCH!) and said that should do it.... Watery discharge again then streaked with red then full on red blood... back to the hospital AGAIN today, saw the consultant who re-quarterised it again but with silver nitrate or whatever it's called rather than with heat. Was told that should stop it.

BUT TONIGHT IT'S JUST GETTING HEAVIER, ONCE AGAIN....

Am so so fed up. Just doesn't seem to be any end to it. Consultant said should reduce to nothing pretty quickly and to see him again in 2 weeks, he certainly didn't say the treatment might cause it to get heavier.... Have been bleeding pretty much constantly since 23rd Sept and am sick of it. Also bored of wearing the hideous big pants I bought after having DD because am not allowed to use tampons....

Has this ever happened to anyone else? The hospital don't seem to know what's going on, but they don't seem very concerned (though not sure whether that's a good thing or not!) Any advice would be appreciated, sorry for the whinge, just seems to have been hanging over me for ages and is now getting to me rather a lot...... Sad

It's cauterisation/cautery BTW

If you can cope with it tonight and it's still as heavy tomorrow then give the hospital a ring and see what they say, as it doesn't seem to fit really with what the consultant told you.
Sorry you're going through this and hope it stops soon.

I had this procedure, and it was an extensive LLETZ, but my bleeding had stopped by 2 weeks. You really need to go back and see the doc again.

If it doesn't smell then prob not an infection, it's just not healing quickly.

Hope you get it sorted

Thanks Bella & Bertie, Bella knew I was spelling it wrong but couldn't be bothered to check Blush thanks for putting me right.

Don't know if there's any point calling the hospital again tomorrow, I only saw the consultant today and I wouln't say he was particularly interested in/concerned about seeing me again any time soon......

aaaaarrrghhhhhhhhhh.......

2 weeks sounds like a long time. I didn't bleed for too long after the 2 LLETZ treatments I had.

Are you resting? IIRC the bleeding did get worse if I was on my feet too much, or if I went paintballing - not that I would be that stupid Blush.

Oh captain- Thats horrible, poor you..

Don't forget you can ask for a second opinion from a different consultant,if you're not happy with the first.

There is an organisation called 'Womens Health Concern', it seems the number i had, has changed but just googled and it still exists,(can't do links sorry) they were really helpful when i spoke to them last, maybe they can give you some advice?

I have had cervical cautery ,but it does sound as if you're not healing .

I really hope it gets sorted soon..

BelaLugosiISDED · 03/11/2010 21:53

Sorry Captn, couldn't help myself Blush

From a bit of googling (I know, I know). It does seem from the anecdotals that the bleeding is for longer for some women. It may be if the area treated was large that its taking longer to heal, but it's obviously causing you discomfort.
I understand your reluctance to contact them again, so perhaps a phone consultation with the GP? Please don't leave it long.

Thanks ladies. Might call the consultant who I was under when I had DD, he was fab, just feel a bit like I'm going behind the other guy's back.... They took about 1cm, don't know if that classes as larger than most.

Meglet Grin about paintballing, haven't done that, but have quite a stressful job and also running around after a very active 14mth old. but the original procedure was almost 6 weeks ago, 2 weeks of bleeding I could cope with....

Bella Shock at googling! Wink My gp friend seems to think it'll just stop eventually in its own time as long as there's no infection, which the consultant seems to think there isn't.

Jelly thanks for the tip, will go and google them now, just don't tell Bella that's what I'm doing! Wink

TBH I think part of the reason I'm finding it so difficult is that having to use pads all the time brings back v unpleasant memories of the 2 mc's I had before DD Sad
