If you wet to a pool that wasn't treated with any chemicals (such as chlorine) then i suspect it is probably possible.

Most modern pools use chlorine to kill bacteria.

DanceInTheDark · 03/11/2010 12:19

wet = went

TanteRoseAliveAndKicking · 03/11/2010 12:20

the chlorine in the pool is supposed to kill all the bacteria.

If you are worried, just change your tampon after you get out of the pool.

CerealParliamentaryArsonist · 03/11/2010 12:21

you could jsut change your tampon after swimming or get a mooncup.

TaurielTest · 03/11/2010 12:22

or try a mooncup :)

no more than they could without a tampon in - if the germs can travel up a tampon, they can travel up your fanjo in the water

WhyHavePets · 03/11/2010 12:25

But wouldn't the germs in the pool travel up the..erm..."gap" in which a tampon sits if you go swimming at other times of the month?

You are being silly, if you immerse yourself in water then some of the germs in the water will get into all nooks and crannies - tampon or not!

WhyHavePets · 03/11/2010 12:25

Hah, xpost Grin

CerealParliamentaryArsonist · 03/11/2010 12:26

some of us have a more watertight fango than others.

i never liked using tampons in the pool. i always had visions of an octopus style squirtage during a particular vigorous breast stroke

yabbajabbaa · 03/11/2010 12:49

i should be fine then as my fango is very tight, both my children came out of the sunroof Grin and there's not much happening in the bedroom of late!

thanks ladies!

on a sidenote, i heard the tampon string gets wet hence the germs travelling up! guess i will change it as soon as i get out or tuck the string right in and hope to find it later!

Of course the string gets wetHmm

Are you taking the P?!

If you are that worried, just go swimming next week instead.

WhyHavePets · 03/11/2010 14:51

On that note...what about when you go for a pee? Doesn't that make the string wet and the germs go up? Isn't unadulterated pee in the vagina worse then chlorinated water?

Confused
purplepeony · 03/11/2010 15:22

pee is actually sterile.

You can catch all kinds of infections from swimming pools including ones in your fango.

Chlorine works to an extent.

I suppose the tampon risk is that the germs stay in place for a while when you are swimming, rather than sloshing out again through force of gravity.

FluffyDonkey · 03/11/2010 15:27

Used tampons whilst swimming for years and in a number of swimming pools (competitions). Never got an infection, never crossed my mind I might.

Just be sure to change it straight afterwards to avoid damp knickers

WhyHavePets · 03/11/2010 15:47

So why is there a problem wiping after a pee if you wipe towards your fanjo? (now really confused) Grin

happygilmore · 03/11/2010 16:05

because it might transfer germs from your anus whp :)

nickelbangBANGbang · 03/11/2010 16:47

WHP means backwards from wee to fanjo.

Dumbledoresgirl · 03/11/2010 16:51

If you really want to worry consider this: the water soaks up the string and swells the tampon, thus filling the tampon with water and meaning it can't absorb any blood. So when you get out of the pool, a flood of blood comes out. You think that can't happen? Unfortunately, it can.

I don't swim during my period now.
