Mid-September I found a breast lump, I went to the GP would said to come back in 2 weeks and she would see if there were any changes.

There were no changes so I was referred to see a surgeon who felt my breasts and detected other lumops but declared everything fine, she did an ultrasound and showed me cysts and fatty lumps. The surgeon then said I would have another ultrasound to see if any cysts needed draining.

The appointment came through and I cancelled it as I felt it was non-urgent and rescheduled for today.

The Dr performed the ultrasound and found another area of concern, I had a mammogram and then had a biopsy taken. Apparantly my breast tissue is very dense and the needle bent 6 times so I then had to have the sample taken with a tube type contraption.

The whole experience was totally unexpected and was not very pleasant but the staff were lovely. I am just so worried about what is there and whats going on.

To top it off I had not expected mammogram and biopsy and had my 3 year old with me who pretty much watched the whole biopsy thing and was as good as gold. I also forgot to put my parking ticket in my car as I was cutting it fine and got a fixed penalty.

Has been a v rubbish day!

Hi. I know it seems really worrying but often these lumps are just benign fibrous tissue - fibroadenomas. I had some every year from being 18-27 and had a range of biopsies from fine needle aspiration and core needle biopsy (I think this is what you are describing) and I had a large lump removed. Not one of these were ever anything more than fibrous tissue and more often than not they just went on their own. I wasn't given any reason to explain why I had these although I was told some women just do but that they don't become anything else and they do not mean you are any more likely to develop malignant lumps. I haven't had any for about 4 years now. Hope that has reassured you a little.x

BFP, yes, that was what it was, core needle biopsy.

Thanks for sharing, that does reassure me a lot!

And don't pay the fine, if you were in the hospital car park..

It costs them far too much to chase you.

My sister had an almost identical experience (except without a toddler in tow) and had fully prepared herself for bad news, esp when the consultant and nurse came for a chat after. However, they just wanted to make sure she fullly understood that her lumpy bumpy breasts were healthy, and to teach her how to check DESPITE these lumps.

I think her's was a fluid filled cyst in the end.

I wasn't in the hospital car park but I am going to appeal as I have the voucher and the hospital letter so hopefully they will be kind to me.

Thanks Mitchymum, I am keeping everything crossed that it's the same for me :)

Hello. I've an appointment for the hospital next week to get a lumpy bit checked. Can I ask if you've had any discomfort with your lump?
Mine seems to be a bit tender pre-period.
I'm looking to share some of your positive stories as I've been feeling pretty gloomy this week too.
Good luck!
