For the past few weeks, I've been noticing a lot of foul flatulence smells when DP is in the room. I always shake my head and tut and say, "Please stop making those smells!" and he promises he will. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind him letting his wind out... it's just so revoltingly stinky.
We've had a rather dramatic change of diet recently since I've started cooking from fresh ingredients now DD is a little older and I have more time to waddle around in the kitchen. There are more fruits and vegetables going into our mouths daily, and it seems to be affecting DPs stomach in a pretty stinky way.
Earlier, the smell was so dreadful, I told him he needed to go for colonic irrigation. Then I told him seriously I thought he should go to the doctor, as embarrassing as that would be. He confessed that this isn't a new problem, it comes and goes, and he's been to the doctor before we met who said it's IBS. He also has a bad case of the "squits" during these periods of time, he tells me.
It seems like it must be the increase in vegetables and fruit which is triggering this problem, as I can't put it down to anything else. We eat a lot of spicy food, but we always have. I was wondering if anybody who has experience of IBS has any information which might help me? I've heard it's triggered by foods, and that it's specific to each individual sufferer. However, I don't know how to tackle this - do I let him live a veg-free life to see if the problem resolves itself (not that he wants this, he loves my home-made cooking) or do I persist with my current style of cooking and hope his body just gets used to it?
Could there be anything else which could trigger IBS or is it definitely food?
