It hurts. I stupidly fell asleep the night before last half-sitting, half-lying, on a moderate-to-hard surface, woke several hours later in same position with a numb and painful bum. Today, I have an extremely painful area a little northeast of my coccyx, similar to sciatic nerve pain, but more spread out and still with some numbness and a bruised feeling.

Doesanybody knowwhat I have doneand whether it islikely to get better by itself? Thank you...

well if it's due to sleeping in odd position, it'll ease eventually. try ibuprofen gel rubbed into the area. tiger balm is good also, light stretching and hot baths.

You think so? Smile a hot bath would feel good I think, although a cushioned hot bath would be even better! Will see if I can get something to rub into it tomorrow. Thanks x

Hope your back pain has improved, and, remembering your name from another thread, I do hope you are now feeling happier with your life (apart from this pain!)

Hello, hope it's got better on its own - I have sciatica and it's a right arse (ho ho). Try lying on your front and doing a half-push up (keep your pelvis on the floor and push up as far as you can with your arms to bend yourself backwards). Makes mine feel better....

I've been diagnosed with bursitis in my hip - initial bout was extremely painful, I could barely walk and going up stairs or sitting/standing for any length of time was agony. At one point I was crying in pain and just didn't know what to do with myself.

Your symptoms sound pretty similar. The pain is in the upper buttock, with a dull ache all the way down the leg, and then with an added stabbing pain when weight goes on the leg. It went quite quickly initially but has come back and I've now been given anti inflammatories for a month, with the option of a cortisone injection.

I'm told it can take ages to die down, and doesn't always go away so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

If you think it might be this there's lots of useful info on the web.

piriformis spasm.

Google for Stretches, also try some Pilates back curls.

You may need to see a physio to release the initial spasm
