Hi, lots of food are naturally wheat free - all fruit, vegetables, unprocessed meat and fish, oats, rice, gluten/wheat free pasta, dairy foods. Main problem is processed foods, sauces etc. Can you work out what foods and meals he likes that fills him up and make those/adapt them?

Maybe have lots of bananas etc in for snacks. Things like brownies are easy to make with gluten free flour if you like baking. The supermarkets have "free from" sections, but they tend to mainly do sweet stuff I find.

Hope the trial goes ok.

Ty

Though not quite sure how cooking going yo go at school might chat and for sonethings see instead of plain flour that he uses rice flour

He's pretty good and mature enough to handle the why's but is quite shy so feeling might be issues at school dinners

Could you contact the school yourself, discreetly, and ask for a list of all meals that are wheat free - then he can choose with confidence and not have to make an issue of it? Flapjack and fruit is all they have for puddings at the local school here, but main courses are better.

The kitchen staff will know though Grin. If you ever use oven chips or frozen potato products watch out as many use wheat flour (!) and the same at chip shops - if they cook the chips in same oil as batter etc.

I use rice flour or corn flour or a gluten free flour mix as replacemnt - eg corn flour in sauces....

Gluten free pasta is nice, though I have learnt it needs rinsing in hot water like rice does. I like Sainsbury's own make, or DS makes - but all are good!

search for nigel slater's hot chocolate puddings on t'internet. They are gorgeous and have no wheat.

If you put the mix into a cake tin instead of ramekins, and cook it a wee bit too long. It makes wheat free cake - also gorgeous.
