What on earth was this then?

Suddenly itchy palm. Scratched it. Very intense crampy pain at the site of the itch which eased slowly. Dark bruise appeared instantly which still hasn't faded completely 3 days later.

WTF?

Anyone?

aDarkStarWithStrangeWays · 28/10/2010 12:47

Some weird freaky body shit, in my considered opinion.

GoreRenewed · 28/10/2010 12:48

Cheers darkstar!

Grin

Wow! What would I do without MN?

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 28/10/2010 13:03

A burst blood vessel perhaps?

aDarkStarWithStrangeWays · 28/10/2010 13:04

Grin Your post reminded me of the time I woke up with this small, hard lump under the skin on the back of my hand. It was so incredibly painful, I started freaking out wondering wtf it was. My friend's mum assured me it was a blocked vein Hmm and she got them sometimes, and that it would be gone within 24 hours. It was indeed gone the next day and has never reappeared.

So my only explanation is weird freaky body shit Grin Ditto the big lump on a tendon in my neck, ditto the fifth wisdom tooth etc...

GoreRenewed · 28/10/2010 13:11

Ahh....I am getting quite old now so I do have a few odd bits that I just live with now. I guess I'll put it down to that. Freaky body shit it is Grin

kurri - that was what I wondered but it seems odd that it should happen when I was doing nothing strenuous - I always think of horses in the Grand National bursting blood vessels not middle-aged women doing the crossword!

aDarkStarWithStrangeWays · 28/10/2010 13:12

Well, my dad put his back out doing the hoovering once, and my brother cracked a rib whilst coughing. Even a sedentary life can be fraught with peril! Wink

KurriKurri · 28/10/2010 13:16

Were you gripping the pen very tightly? Grin

GoreRenewed · 28/10/2010 13:18

No! I was doing a bit of gentle doodling because I couldn't get any clues. In fact I was colouring all the 0s in the sports section IIRC.

DH once tore all his intercostal muscles punching the air when he won at poker Hmm

PortBlacksandsDoppelganger · 28/10/2010 13:20

I reckon there's something in there laying eggs as we speak....

QuintessentialShadows · 28/10/2010 13:21

Freaky body shit is as useful as my gp, when I got a round hard bump on the inside on my wrist. It was totally round and hard. GP said I could try knock it with a hammer or a heavy book. That should flatten it.
I am not joking. I still dont know what it is, and it is still there, 5 years later.

PortBlacksandsDoppelganger · 28/10/2010 13:25

QS - i had one of those in my teens and did just that - with a bible no less. It worked for me but i'm not advocating you do it in case you break your wrist and blame me....

GoreRenewed · 28/10/2010 13:28

Ooohh DS1 has one of those. We all look at it sometimes and shake our heads and say how we must show it to the GP. But never do. Now I know what to do. I'll have to get DH to hold him down though Grin

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 28/10/2010 13:31

Ooh I had one of those QS - it was called a ganglion IIRC, I was given the 'hit it with a Bible' advice and it worked. (Felt really disgusting though, I could feel liquid trickling down inside my hand).

My DH injured his back laughing at one of his own jokes

marchbunny · 28/10/2010 13:36

They are called 'ganglion cysts', my ds also has one! Strange thing - got really swollen and painful at one point so he had it x-rayed. Practically invisible again at the mo Confused

aDarkStarWithStrangeWays · 28/10/2010 13:39

DH has a ganglion cyst, it does come and go. He hates it.

Elibean · 28/10/2010 13:47

Bite? Burst blood vessel? Fascinating thread material, whatever it is. Does it still hurt at all, or itch?

I once had a jet black spot on the inside of my wrist (I was about 12, and convinced it was a melanoma), the GP made an appointment for me to have it removed and it vanished never to return. And last week, I had large bumps on my head - diagnosed as cysts, but a few days later I was diagnosed with shingles: not related, the GP swore.

So why have they gone away a few days later, after taking the antivirals for the shingles, eh? Eh?!?

Weird freaky body shit is right....

QuintessentialShadows · 28/10/2010 13:51

Ganglion, thanks for clearing that up for me!

I shall stay away from heavy reading material!Grin

KurriKurri · 28/10/2010 13:53

How are you feeling today Elibean?

GoreRenewed · 28/10/2010 14:04

No pain at all eli, or itching.

Sorry you are feeling bad though.

OP posts:
ShirleyGarrote · 28/10/2010 14:14

I agree with PortsBlack.

It's probably a little earwiggy thing, and it's burrowed into your hand and is laying a billion eggs and in a couple of weeks you'll be itchy again and you'll scratch it and the skin will break open and a billion little earwiggy bugs will come teaming out of your hand and you will look like the woman in the Edvard Munch painting.

Either that or you had a little itch and you scratched it and popped a little capillary and gave yourself a bruise. Grin

I had a little google actually for itchy palms and found this totally weird thread where all these people are suffering from terrible itchy hands and no one knows what it is.

KurriKurri · 28/10/2010 14:19

According to my Mother, itchy palm is connected with money - left hand means you're coming into money, right hand you are giving it away (or maybe the other way around.)

trumpton · 28/10/2010 14:35

Dearie me ... Left palm itch= LEAVING L for leaving
Right palm itch= RECEIVING R for receiving

NOW DON'T FORGET.

Altho' I am with the burrowing insect theory.

GoreRenewed · 28/10/2010 14:36

Oh good! Twas my right hand so I choose to beleive Trumpton. Sorry kurri!

Hi GoreRenewed. I get exactly the same but on the inside of my fingers where you can see the veins. Yes sudden pain, then itch and a bruise. Little burst blood vessel.Bruising should go in a couple of days.
