Any high blood pressure sufferers - some questions

Anyone who has high blood pressure - can you have a guess at filling in some blanks for me? Basically I'm worried about an old friend of mine, who has had high blood pressure for a few years now and doesn't seem to be being treated very effectively for it. I've heard from my mum that friend's BP has now gone very high (don't have the numbers, unfortunately) and she is on 1000 mg of whatever the medication is (again, don't know the name). What might the medication be and how bad a dose is this? I have another friend whos BP got so high she was not allowed to leave the hospital. Frankly I am worried that my old friend's doctors are not taking this seriously, and I think the issue needs to be pushed a bit more. Hard to say, of course, with all the gaps in the information. Can anyone give me an opinion?

Possibly - my mum said a thousand but it's possible she was mistaken. It's 4 tablets a day. Thanks for the reply.

I have slightly raised BP and take 2.5mg of Bendroflumethiazide each day. That's 1 tablet so 4 would obviously be 10mg

If they are an old friend of yours, can't you speak to them about it?

And if you can't, then what is it to do with you?

You seem a bit removed from this situation to be so specifically concerned about it.

Rooby To be honest, I'm sure it is none of my business, but it has worried me hearing about it tonight all the same. It's a hot button of mine because I have been in the position of doctors not taking something seriously and then it becoming much worse as a consequence so I react quite strongly when hearing about it in other people. Also, because of the gaps in the info I got, I'm a bit frustrated and would like to fill those in to know if this is really the situation or not. For that reason, I'd also like to know more before I speak to my friend, rather than find out my mum has got it wrong.

Some people's BP doesn't respond very well to some meds and it can be hard to control. I think you should talk to your friend, find out if she is worried and if she is then you can go in all guns blazing. If not then you need to accept that this maybe isn't something you need to worry about either. THe friend who couldn't leave hospital must have had epic high BP putting her at immediate risk of stroke? I can see why that would worry you but lots and lots of people have chronic high BP that does not require hospitalisation. If you are talking to your friend about this you could ask about her diet. It isn't all meds - patients need to cut down big time on salt intake and that is HARD!

Yes, with my other friend it was the case that she could have had a stroke at any moment. Hopefully this situation is not so severe. Thanks for the replies.

Like you say, you have gaps in info, but on BOTH sides. You don't know your "old friend's" medical info, and you don't know what a dr would say to these symptoms.
So what are you hoping to achieve? They could have any number of underlying conditions that are nothing to do with you.
