Sorry about this in advance!

Lottie has always suffered, her whole entire life, with constipation and rock hard, huge, cannonball poos. She went once a week and it was always traumatic, no matter what we did.

Since we got back from holiday (end July) I've stopped using the docusate (softener with a slight laxative in it as well) and just carried on as normal.

About 2 weeks ago she filled her nappy with very, very loose, almost frothy poo. Since then she's been filling her nappy a few times a week, maybe even as much as every other day, and it's always loose and frothy (sorry).

Last night she did a more solid poo, she woke up to do it. Then this morning when i changed her she'd filled her nappy again but it was very loose again.

On one hand it's a relief that she's clearing her system, without crying, on such a regular basis.
On the other hand, does she have a bug do you think, should I take her to see the GP? I hate going if I don't have to.
She's fine in herslef, happy, eating well etc, etc.

Hey there Tomcat

Maybe she is teething, i know that with my kids they had loose bowel motions when they were teething, (along with the rosey cheeks and sometimes even a runny nose).
Don't know just a thought.

Hmmm, well I would have thougth they were all through, she's 4 at Xmas, but what the hell do I know, she's off to dentist in a couple of weeks so will discover all about her teeth then.
An idea but not convinced it's that.

I've been dealing with my DS's severe constipation for a few years. Now DD is also constipated. They both go through cycles of hard / spoft poo. We've also been on the once a week poo time - screaming from all of us! I think that the soft poo is OK. Have you checked it for any signs of blood or other discolour?

I would have a chat with doctor just to put mind at rest -- she sounds fine in herself but maybe comingof the docusate might be responsible for changes as her body takes over her "waste management activities"?? My 2 kids output varies from the liquid thru to the concrete but as long as they are eating and weeing OK and not with a temperature and there is no blood I tend not to worry...

what is the fascination with poo that we have...

have I checked the poo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What do you think, LOL, yes, I've studied it!!!!!

Well i rang the GP rather than go and see him and he seems to think it's fine. If she leaks brown liquid throughout the day then that's different, but 1 nappy a day with some form of ...ewwwwwwwwwwww.... consistency , ahem..... is fine.

Yuck, yuck, yuck, sorry about that.

It's all very new to me, only ever changed 1 nappy a week for 3.5 yrs and now this!

Am I right in thinking she's gluten free? I know a mum (of a child with DS- who has written books about diet and bowels etc) who reckons that the majority of children with DS cannot tolerate gluten. If she's already gluten free then ignore, but if not maybe worth a trial?
