Gallbladder

Can some one please advise, I?ve recently been discharged from hospital following a bad attack of Gallstones or rather pain like nothing I?ve ever felt and been subsequently diagnosed with Gallstones and Acute Cholecystitis. Had a few days on IV anti-biotic and pain killers. I?ve been referred to a surgeon and am looking at a 6-8 weeks wait for it to be removed (they need to be sure that the infection is cleared up.)

Anyway, I was signed off for a week and am due to return to work on Monday; the thing is I?m shattered, is this normal?
I don?t have any children am, well was ttc until this happened. So it is just me, OH works away from home during the week but has come home every night this week but mainly I?ve been either lying on the sofa poking around on here or sleeping.

Went for a wander of about 20 minutes around the supermarket on Wednesday and then slept for 20 hours on Thursday.

So what I wanted to know was ?is this normal??
I?ve had a crappy couple of years with various health problems related to ttc myself, and OH has had some health issues too so I?m wondering if I?m having a delayed reaction to all of that. Not to mention various family type things.

Oh and any hints on avoiding the pain and what to expect post op would be brill too

Thanks in advance

I was in your postition, but had my gallbladder removed two weeks ago today.

I was very tired but put this down to the fact that I was often awake all night in pain or vomiting.

Post OP I was vomiting all night on the day of the OP. I was in pain, but no worse than previous attacks.

I was given morphine to control the pain. There was a drain fitted (plastic tube into the abdomen) to release any blood, I do bleed a lot. I found the pain subsided when this was removed.

I have had a lot of pain in my ribs, strangely at the bottom of my ribcage at the back, apparently this is quite common.

I found the recovery quite slow and could not lift anything with right arm.

I have done some housework and driven today for the first time, I still have a little discomfort but nothing much. I am still easily tired.

I feel very very well and it was the best thing I oould have done.

Good luck although it isn't pleasant it is well worth it.

DH had his out last year with keyhole surgery-it was the best thing he could have done and he is fine now-he doesn't appear to need it.

I had my gallbladder removed about 14 years ago through keyhole surgery. I had a bit of pain in my lower back post-op and was told this is normal due to the air pumped in during the surgery. It went after a few days. They will put a drain in during the op and it will be removed after a day or so. I didn't have any feelings of sickness after the op. I have four tiny scars - one in my bellybutton where the air went in, two along the edge of my ribs on the right hand side and one on my belly where the drain was.

Prior to your op try to avoid fatty foods - this can bring on a bad attack, although I did once have a bad attack after a slice of dry toast!

I haven't had any problems since the op and don't seem to miss my gallbladder. I was signed off for four weeks after my op but felt as if I was back to normal after just two weeks.

Thank you all for answering so fast, gives me a bit of a better idea of what to expect. One last quick question before you had your gallbladder out long long did it take you to recover from a bad attack/episode?

Before I had my gallbladder removed I would usually recover from an attack after 8 hrs.
I would still feel a bit washed out and tired but no pain.
