Ds is just 15, over the last 2 weeks he has had pin in first one ankle, then the other then one knee, now the other. This morning I woke him for school and he says his head aches.

We live overseas and the process is different. He has seen a GP who did blood and x-ray, nothing showed, 2 days later we went to a diferent hospital and the same thing, nothing showed. He is taking advil as recomended (not sure I really approve of that but...) We have an appointment for tomorrow afternoon with an orthopedic specilist, he says he cant wait till then.

It appears to be up to me what type of specialist we see and I have no idea. any ideas please?

Hi Starmummy,

does he play any sports that might have twisted the original offending ankle or knocked his back?

I was having ankle and achilles problems for a while until a physio and chiro in tandem worked out that it's coming from my back. And of course whilst favouring the 'injured' side the healthy side started playing up as well.

Have you tried giving your ds an ibuprofen or naproxen based painkiller? They help with inflamation if there is any. However, not sure if suitable for 15 year olds :)

Hope he gets better soon

Thanks MrsBigD,

We cannot think at all of any accident he may have had. He is sporting and does running, duathalon, swimming, water polo and football. However in the last week he has done nothing, didn't go out at the weekend and can barely bend his legs. I will give him burden at his next painkiller time.
To be honest I am not sure if the headache is just a separate issue or part of the same. I understand that you get refered pain when the favor one side over the injured side. I just didn't think the pain could get so bad quite so quickly.
The specialist tomorrow is for peadiatric orthopedics so hopefully an MRI scan will indicate if it is achilies or similar. I think my biggest worry is the speed of the onset of the pain.

good luck at the paed ortho. with all that sport I'm surprised he doesn't injure himself all the time. Then again not everybody is as injury/accident prone as I amGrin.

lol. he is very accident prone. In the last 18 months he has had 1 broken leg, 2 broken arms and appendicitis (which I know isnt an accident but.....)we put a stop to rugby as that wasnt helping with all the small injuries.

fingers crossed for you xx
