Hi just wondered if anyone had laser eye surgery just booked it for four weeks and more than a bit scared!

Yes, 6 years ago. It was fantastic! I was really nervous on the day but it was soooo worth it. Be prepared for a headache for about 24/48 hours, you might want to go to bed for a while and wear sunglasses in the day for about a week.

It is one of the best things I've done, no more faffing about with contact lenses, no more glasses during hayfever season, brilliant!

Good luck

I had it done about 5 years ago and it's brilliant. Not a nice procedure, but it's over in 30 mins (both eyes), go home and sleep with your sunglasses on and by that evening you will probably be able to see without your glasses or lenses.

Hope it goes well

I had mine done about a year ago. The actual procedure is uncomfortable but only for a matter of about 2 minutes. Afterwards I felt very comfortable but as the drops wear off that they put in to numb your eyes during the surgery it gets quite uncomfortable.
I also had to have mine redone which I think is quite common. My vision now is good, I don't have to wear glasses but I do get halos around car and street lights at night.
I would definately have it done again but I would go in with my eyes open so to speak. I did have to spend 6 months with not great vision before they would repeat the procedure and I am left with this slight night vision problem. My night vision is OK but do read the small print as I think occasionally it can be bad enough to make driving at night difficult.
I did rush into having it done due to a half price offer so just read all the info they give you and ask plenty of questions.

I had it done 4 years ago - it's still the best thing I've ever spent money on.

The actual procedure didn't hurt, but my eyes were a bit painful afterwards for a couple of days. The drops they gave me helped with that though.

Look forward to afterwards when you can drive without glasses, put make up on without have to squash your nose up against a mirror, go on holiday without having to take loads of pairs of glasses, jump in the swimming pool without worrying about contact lenses, wake up in the middle of the night and see what time it is on the clock, see your legs while you're shaving ..... Grin

I had it done in the middle of last year. Absolutely no regrets - it is fantastic to have excellent vision! Make sure you get it done by someone with a good reputation, though - some centres and surgeons have higher rates of recorrection than others and there is no way I would have wanted to go back and have it redone!

gailforce1 · 15/10/2010 18:14

Rabbitstew - you are so right! I went to a consultant recommended by my optician. He was at the Queen Victoria Hospital Centre for Sight at East Grinstead. Brilliant man who performed many corrective procedures on those who had gone for, shall we say, the cheaper operators. Many patients were travelling from across the south of England, London and the Home Counties to be seen by him.

Stressedmum - please select carefully.

I went to the same man, gailforce1... (Mr Daya, I presume).

It's the best thing I've ever done but did not have a good experience afterwards. It took me weeks to get over it and the agony was almost unbearable. Saying that, I know lots of people who've had it done and did not experience the same difficulties I did. The procedure itself was pain free and I had immediate good vision. It's definitely worth it.

gailforce1 · 15/10/2010 20:19

Rabbitstew - YES Mr Daya, I could not remember his name when I posted!! I had the op on a Saturday afternoon, got home and had a light supper and went straight to bed. Slept all night and when I woke up the next morning I could see, from my bed, the toothbrushes in the bathroom which I had never seen before without glasses!! Had a quiet day on the Sunday and back to work Monday and driving. Never had any pain after the op and still brilliant 10 years on!!

RamblingRosa · 15/10/2010 20:25

I've been thinking about this recently. My mum, brother, and dad have all had it done so I'm the only one in my family who still wears glasses/contacts.

They all went to Moorfields in London. I think I'd go there if I ever do take the plunge.

mrsshackleton · 15/10/2010 20:42

I had it done and 10 good years followed but now i have to wear reading glasses, so be warned once you hit 40 your eyes will go whatever

rabbitstew · 15/10/2010 20:54

Ah, but normal eyesight plus ageing is better than -6.25 prescription plus ageing. It's not as if needing reading glasses for some close up work compares to needing glasses to see anything in focus at all.

howdoo · 15/10/2010 23:24

Exactly, rabbit - you're probably going to need reading glasses at some point anyway, whether you have it done or not.
Mine is booked in for two weeks time, so I'm really glad to read this thread!

FranknCock · 15/10/2010 23:26

4 years ago, -7.00 in both eyes, now perfect vision. 20 years of wearing glasses every day!

Best money I ever spent.

wellilikemythinking · 15/10/2010 23:32

I had mine done 4 years ago, the procedure was fine. My eyes streamed for the rest of the day but had no pain. It was fantastic, came out of the centre and could see all the way down the street, signs and everything!!!!
Just had regular eye check and one has ever so slightly deteriated but no where near
needing glasses.

Am sure you will be fine
