Flickering eyelid - it's driving me up the wall!

So this problem is not exactly serious, I'm not dying or anything. But it is mighty annoying! My left eyelid is flickering in the outer corner, constantly. When I look in the mirror I can barely see it move, but I can feel it all the time and can see it from the inside, if you understand me!

It's been happening for several days and is driving me crackers!

Any suggestions?

have you tried taking magnesium?
I had a twitch a while ago, when I was very stressed and malnourished (didn't eat well because of the stress). magnesium helped in the short term, sleep and job change in the long.

Unprune · 14/10/2010 13:12

I get this. Sleep!

3thumbedwitch · 14/10/2010 13:14

Sleep deprivation, definitely! And stress. And probably low magnesium too but lack of sleep is my biggest trigger.

buttonmoon78 · 14/10/2010 13:18

Well, my first thought was sleep but have slept 9-10 hrs both Tue & Wed night. And as for magnesium, I take a mineral & vit supplement every day. Is this not enough? Should I try an increased dose for magnesium?

Gino and Philip on This Morning show both had this at different times.. It's lack of sleep !

Sinkingfeeling · 14/10/2010 13:34

It's a symptom of sleep deprivation and/or stress for me. If it isn't sleep, could it be stress?

katiepotatie · 14/10/2010 13:37

Yep, sleep deprivation. My sister has had this before

buttonmoon78 · 14/10/2010 14:10

Ok, so it could be a red herring about the last 2 nights. I've just thought back over the past couple of weeks and my sleep has been decidedly limited!

Will make more of an effort to get more sleep and hope that improves it.

Thanks all!

I get this too. I'll get it a lot and then nothing for months. Constantly tired though lol!

Unprune · 14/10/2010 16:23

I thought mine had gone, as I went to bed at 9 last night - but no, it's just come back Hmm

bodycolder · 14/10/2010 16:27

I had this and was diagnosed b12 deficient It went once I started the injections.Do you have any other symptoms? It drove me mad too!

nightcat · 14/10/2010 16:57

try B vits (B complex) and/or Mg
Thing is that in a multi some minerals compete and don't get absorbed well.

DBennett · 14/10/2010 17:41

There is little reason to think that vitamins would be the cause of cure of this condition.

Most of the literature on this subject points more to stimulants and wakefulness.

So, more sleep.
Less caffeine and alcohol.

buttonmoon78 · 14/10/2010 21:10

I can't do a fat lot about the stimulants - I have maybe one or two cups of tea a day at v most, no coffee and no coke. Alcohol wise I've currently got a nice cold lager but that's a twice or thrice a week job, not several a day!

I guess sleep it is.
