Has anyone had a core needle biopsy or know what's "normal" after one.

Long story short. 5 months ago had ultrasound and fine needle aspiration - all clear, just fatty tissue,

Went back to GP 3 weeks ago as the hospital hadn't given them my results and the GP wanted to check the lump - it had gotten bigger and so he referred me again. Sent back to hospital for a core needle biopsy which I had done 2 weeks ago today. Again all clear (I'm not worried about it, I'm 26 and although there is history of BC I'm otherwise fine).

Anyway, the lump is now much bigger than it was before the biopsy; as in half my boob is now lump. It's also really sore and before it was only sore sometimes. Does anyone know if this is just normal swelling as a result of the biopsy or should I go back to GP.

I don't want to go back to GP as they keep poking at it and making it cross! I'm thinking if it's not cancer I can just ignore?!

When I had a core biopsy really I didn't notice it at all,it was a little bit bruised to start with, and that was it,and after 2 weeks I was completely back to normal as far as I remember.(was slightly distracted though by the outcome..!)

I would think it'd be best to go back to your GP,if the lump is bigger and your boob is really sore - might you have an infection for example?

Hope you get it sorted soon!

bugger bugger bugger! I was hoping an infection might be obvious like green pus or something but I'm guessing it's all internal.

Wish I'd left it alone now, I'm scared my boob is going to wind up 100% lump!

That's only me guessing! But that is what I'd be wanting to check out in your situation.(green pus or not!)
It sounds as if you've done the sensible thing having it all checked, hopefully the GP will sort it out quickly, and in a few weeks time you'll be back to normal.

Bump for any morning people who might be in the know?!

Go back to your Gp, they'll be fine about it - better to be safe!
Hope it's less sore today :)

i had a core biopsy over a year ago and there was no resulting bruising or lumpiness -so I think yopu shopuld have it checked out...hope all is ok

sandripples · 13/10/2010 17:29

I also had a core biopsy last December and it soon settled. I think you should get it checked in case of infection. (I've had 2 infections during my cancer treatment and they're not always obvious. GP spotted one of mine very quickly that I had not realised was an infection)

boo I guess you're all right, luckily got a cancellation appointment tomorrow at 8.10am.

Do you think it might be acting weirdly because my period started today? Do fatty tissue lumps do that?

I've had three and only been a bit sore afterwards.
Do you often get lumpy boobs before/during your period?

navyeyelasH · 13/10/2010 22:57

Nope just this one lump, in one place That I noticed in Dec 2009. My mum and Grandmother both had breast cancer so I do check once a week to be safe.

This lump doesn't normally change during my period but maybe the biopsy pissed it off?

How did you get on at the doc's,navyeyelasH?

rabbitstew · 14/10/2010 13:50

I had a core needle biopsy done on a smallish lump in my breast. I got tonnes of bruising and swelling and the skin puckered up in a very odd way along the site where the needle had gone in - he'd had to make quite a long journey to get to the lump - making my breast look extremely misshapen for about 6 months afterwards... I think this was because the lump was very difficult to get to and, being relatively young, my breast tissue was still relatively firm, which didn't help the ease of the needle's journey. Now, nearly 18 months later, I notice the lump getting considerably bigger and quite uncomfortable during the build up to my period, then diminishing back to an insignificant size shortly afterwards. And my breast is no longer remotely misshapen. I therefore admit to ignoring the lump most of the time, provided it shrinks back to normal size after my period - I would go back if it got permanently bigger. It was kind of annoying that the fine needle aspiration I had done first gave a peculiar result, hence the need for the core needle biopsy when everyone thought the lump was almost certainly benign. I could just have had the lump taken out, of course (would have done if I'd known how invasive the core needle biopsy was going to be!!!!), but I really didn't fancy a general anaesthetic for a probably benign lump and the resulting scar tissue (my mother had a benign lump removed and is always itching where the little scar is...).

So, in other words, you are right to go back to the GP, but would you are experiencing may be normal...

navyeyelasH · 14/10/2010 18:51

Hey Pogleswood the gp didn't look at it but said it can be sore for a while afterwards and if it gets worse to go back again. My boob has gone a really funky shape so thanks for sharing that rabbitstew.

It's still crazy to think that nearly half of my sized 34dd boob is lump though, I hope it shrinks! Sad

Pogleswooooo · 14/10/2010 19:34

oh well,at least you know just to wait it out now!
Hope it shrinks soon Smile

rabbitstew · 14/10/2010 20:35

It will shrink! My lump is now no bigger than it was when I initially went to ask about it, except, of course, when I am having my period, when it does seem to swell more than it used to and get more uncomfortable - I guess there is some scar tissue in there or something, so that any hormonal swelling is now likely to cause a little bit of discomfort.
