When DS was 3 she contracted meningitis whilst we were in Spain, was truly horrifying at the time but I think as a family it has made us stronger and once you have gone through something like this everything else pales into insignificance.

Was just interested really but totally understand if this is a painful subject for anyone. Just nice to talk to someone sometimes who has gone through it too.

mmmm... Anniebear could reply to you, among others. Eidsvold, too.

My dad almost died of meningitus aged 2, has permanent hearing loss from it. Glad to hear your child (boy=ds, or girl=dd?) was ok.

My son had a strept infection in his throat that spread very quickly (this sort of thing is v. rare, but DOES happen on occasion), entering his blood stream. . .so essentially he had septicemia or blood poisoning. . .no rash on his skin, though--hadn't quite gotten to that point. I knew to take him directly to doctor because he was vomiting every 10 minutes or so. . .even after tiny sips of water. . .and yet he clearly didn't have a tummy bug. Doctor had him rushed to hospital. . .we were in time. He had antibiotics by IV (plus loads of fluids pumped in, as he was v. dehydrated) and was in hospital for a couple of days and recovered extremely quickly once the antibiotics kicked in. Unfortunately he turned out to be allergice to the antibiotics, but I noticed his face swelling in time for them to put some piriton equivalent in his IV, so it was OK.

Yes, it was the worst couple of days of my life. . .I occasionally have little unpleasant flashbacks. . .but mostly I feel grateful that he received such quick & good medical care, and I try to look at the positive: that he's OK now. You'll feel better after some time has passed.
