Depends what he was in for, is he recuperating?

KatyMac · 10/10/2010 12:50

He has recurrent chest infections & had IV antibiotics

Last time he bounced of hospital

I think I am worried he hasn't got rid of the infection

sounds cack- my DH is recovering from double pneumonia and it's taking weeeeeeks... he's still shattered and the infection has technically gone.

onmyfeet · 11/10/2010 09:42

It can take a really long time to recover from pneumonia/chest infections. He was lucky to bounce back the other time. Rest, nutrition and time. Hope his convalescence will not be too long. People are not hospitalized with chest infections unless they are quite ill, so he may take a while to feel better and regain his strength. Good luck.

onmyfeet · 11/10/2010 09:43

Your dh too blinks, hope he feels better soon.

KatyMac · 11/10/2010 11:47

He has bronchiectasis & this is his third hospital so we need to get used to it

I checked back (on MN - great on-line diary) and he was very down after it last time too - I must have been mis-remembering

He is feeling really light-headed....I'm not sure if that has any implications?

OP posts:
blinks · 11/10/2010 23:58

no harm in getting him checked out if you're worried... does he feel like he may pass out or is it a slightly light headed sensation? any other additional symptoms? temp? are his sinuses playing up with it? i know that can be a feature of bronchiectasis and that can cause a light headed/spacey sensation. make sure he's hydrated and get in touch with NHS Direct/24 if you're concerned... hope he feels better soon.

KatyMac · 12/10/2010 08:41

I'm not sure I'm worried exactly.....just fussing Wink

I'll keep an eye on him as he is on new medication too (must find the box & read)

Or, if he has been laying down, suddently getting up can cause a decrease in BP, hence swimmy feeling in his head.

blinks · 12/10/2010 08:48

that might explain it, KM. if he keeps feeling light headed he should really be checked out though...maybe a telephone consultation with his GP today to run it past them?

KatyMac · 12/10/2010 09:58

The medication has few side effects, I do wonder actually he was too ill to take DD to music last night but 'OK' to go to reflexology this morning Hmm

OP posts:
blinks · 12/10/2010 11:54

haha. wait and see how he feels later today... what's the medication? i'm working tonight (NHS 24) and could find out a bit more for you.

KatyMac · 12/10/2010 12:26

It's mucodyne for breaking up mucus - seems quite innocuous

OP posts:
blinks · 12/10/2010 14:32

does he get sinusitis with it?

nellieistired · 12/10/2010 14:40

mucodyne is usually innocuous. But apart form the infection making him feel crap (it usually takes time to get over ) the antibiotics may still be in his system. Some of them have this effect and do so until they claer the system.

Also has he spent a few days in bed in hospital (ie in it rather than being mobile around the ward?) if so that would cause him to feel light headed on movement.

Completely aside but do they do home IV's round by you? It may be worth asking next time he has an infection. It may save a stay in hospital if they do. Not all wards think about a community service and need reminding.

KatyMac · 12/10/2010 15:58

Thanks for the suggestion about home IV's but he does a lot of physio while he is there - they monitor him quite carefully (I understand)

We did them at home the first time but DH got all upset about getting it right & it made him uncomfortable plus there were issues with going over to the hospital to get his 'line' checked as it was in too long.....men Hmm

He hasn't had sinusitis yet but he has about 10 days

OP posts:
blinks · 13/10/2010 02:19

hows he feeling tonight?

giraffesCantDookForApples · 13/10/2010 02:46

Hope hes better soon katy. I knew he was in hosp but didnt know it was for that - feel bad for moaning to you about mine now Blush Grin

KatyMac · 13/10/2010 09:01

How else do you think I was able to diagnose Giraffe? I'm no doctor but chest infections I know Wink

He's very tired, after going out & did nothing all day

snap. DH has been off for 6 weeks now with dbl pneumonia and is still sloping around house and napping for 4hrs each day. when he got his Xray to confirm pneumonia they found he has a big hole in his lung too... he's always had a chronic cough and regularly gets chest infections so bronchiectasis is something that worries me. i want him to get a CT scan to check for it once he's recovered.

hope your DH gets lots of rest today and feels better... how are you coping? it must be taking a toll on you too... do you have someone helping you?

KatyMac · 13/10/2010 11:23

It's hard - more so because we are short staffed atm & he would be so useful Wink

DH does rest lots but it is important for him to exercise even if he doesn't feel like it to keep the mucus moving

They 'found' something on his CT & we are waiting to find out what
