i have endomertriosis and i have heard that the marina coil can help with the symptoms.
Is this true and is there anything else i should know about it as i am a little nervous about having it fitted.
Any advice would be great.
Many thanks.

Don't know anything about having it fitted etc but my doc recommended me having the implant or coil to stop periods to help my endo.

I am pregnant though so not doing anything yet.

MERINA coil lol, I had one fitted almost 3 years ago now, I had horrific heavy and painful periods that lasted sometimes 11 days and since having the merina coil I havent really had a period at all. Its a bit uncomfortable having it fitted but well worth it, its been bliss

littlemisslost- i like the nautical theme Grin
Did you have any side effects at first and where did you go to get it fitted was it at the GP's or hospital?

It really depends WHAT symptoms of endometriosis you're experiencing. If your pain is clearly related to your periods (as with littlemisslost), then anything that suppresses monthly bleeding is going to help, whether that's the mini-pill (cerazette is a common one) or Mirena.

However, if you have permanent pain that is independent of your cycle, then Mirena is less likely to help. I would recommend you go on the mini-pill for 6 months first to see if there's an improvement (although Cerazette has some bastard side-effects) and if it helps, then go for the Mirena as a more long-term strategy.

Has your doctor recommended a GnRH agonist therapy like Leuprorelin? That can sometimes help, if you don't mind going through an artificial menopause for a while.

Best of luck with it whatever you decide.

it was fitted at hospital, I had no side effects it was just sore for a while afterwards and I was conscious of having this thing inside me but hell its worth it.
No kids though... they wont give it to you if you want kids in next 3 years or so because its quite expensive and they dont want to have to take it out

Sounds ideal.
I have 2 kids and my DH has had the snip now so having anymore is out of the question.
Thanks for your info.

Does the coil cause weight gain like the pill can?

littlemisslost · 09/10/2010 21:23

not that I have noticed, if you dont want anymore kids and are suffereing with VERy bad periods or endometriosis then I couldnt recommend the merina coil enough Smile

mclazy · 09/10/2010 21:28

am having implant out soon and wasnt happy with it so am considering the merina coil. can you still feel it ? all the time ? sorry for intimate questions but what about during sex ?

littlemisslost · 09/10/2010 21:34
