I have something specific that I am hoping I can apply the CBT too to help me deal with it. I have a book called CBT for dummies but it is pretty thick and I am totally unsure where to start and how to go about it. Has anyone else got this book or tried CBT themselves?

No I have been put off by the size of the book too.

If it is for anxiety/depression i recommend Claire Weekes books!! Haven't tried the book you mention so not sure. Claire Weekes has really helped me.

The CBT book I have is for depression but the subject I want to tackle isn't depression though I guess by not being able to deal with it sometimes makes me feel depressed Confused.

There is CBT for Dummies workbook as well, which might be of interest you (It will probably be in your library if you wanted to look through it before deciding whether to buy.) It has planned exercises and takes you through it step by step.

That is clearly the one I should have bought. Mine is CBT for dummies but not a workbook.

Your GP can refer you for CBT interventions now (if you live in the UK), to treat depression, anxiety, panic, phobia, health anxiety etc.

They can offer you guidance so that you don't feel so lost when trying to work through a book.

If your GP isn;t sure who to refer you to, tell them it's IAPT, most areas now have an IAPt service :)
