Thankyou puzzlepetal....I went to see my podiatrist and you were right to diagnose my heel pain! And by using the icey bottle to roll my foot on, the swelling has reduced. Have ended up having 3 weeks off, feel bad about that but could not have done my job with such pain on standing.
So thankyou, things are better, am doing the exercises and fingers crossed am back at work next week. Cheers! Grin

Good luck this week cheerycherry.

What sort of work do you do? Are you on your feet a lot?

rantyknickers · 10/10/2010 21:46

I had this when DS1 was a baby, hobbled terribly every morning. I went to see possibly the most handsome podiatrist in the world.

He said that it is very common for pregant women and new mothers. Basically we spend our lives in heels, not really doing much and then suddenly start wearing flat shoes and doing lots of walking - your calves can't take it and it puts strain on your feet instead. That coupled with sudden weight gain makes the strain on your feet worse.

I had to do calf stretches. Stand on a yellow pages or step and drop your heel off the back and hold. Alternate them a few times.

I also had a bit of physio too, but the cold bottle rolling sounds like it should work.

johnnycomelurky · 10/10/2010 21:54

I've had this too. I've just realised that I've not been troubled for almost a year - hooray!!!! I got inserts for my shoes from an NHS podiatrist and in the summer I wore Fit-flops which are suprisingly effective. I think the trend for ballet style flat has also contributed to the rise in PF in us lay-deez.

It turns out I have overly mobile tendons in my feet so my normally high arch collapses when I walk. Am 6 months pregnant and was worried it'd come back but so far so good.

Good luck cherrycherry, hope it improves quickly.

How did your day go Cheery?

cocolepew · 11/10/2010 16:07

I had this for over a year, wearing Birkinstock insoles in my converse really helped.

DaftApeth · 11/10/2010 16:11

Yes, how did it go Cheery?

I didn't know you could get birkenstock insoles.

Have googled. Any of these cocolepew?

cocolepew · 11/10/2010 16:18

It was the 3/4 Birko Tex ones for size 5 converse and the full ones for 5 1/2 boots. The 3/4 is fine because it lifts the part of your foot where it is needed. If you go to a poundshop they usually have memory foam heel inserts, use this as well. I was painfree in 6 weeks, don't know if it was a coincident or not!

DaftApeth · 11/10/2010 16:32

Excellent.

Thankyou coco.

Much cheaper than buying fitflop boots!

CheeryCherry · 12/10/2010 21:28

Aw thanks for asking everyone, yesterday my heel was very swollen and painful - boo hiss, but today it is bearable. Am wearing Nike Airs and they do have a lot of bounce in them (and I feel 2 foot taller!) I work in a fab special school DaftApeth, so am very rarely sitting down! I will look into those insoles too - yes - a lot cheaper than those lovely boots!

BTW Cocolepew, my podiatrist said a big 'No' to memory foam inserts, they end up flat, and give no cushioning.

Please be careful! I don't want you to end up like me. I find a night splint very helpful in reducing pain in the morning. x

PurpleLostPrincess · 13/10/2010 20:00

I suffered with this for 2 years in total, was excruciating so I really feel for you! The podiatrist gave me custom made insoles and after a few months of wearing them it improved and now it only flares up if I wear flat shoes/flip flops. Hope you find the right treatment and that it eases quickly for you Smile

I've had PF since April of last year. I wore the cheaper versions of fitflops all summer, they were great. I too looked at fitflop boots, but could not justify spending that sort of money on myself. I did however buy a pair of therashoe boots that were £30, but now they are £25 www.sportsdirect.com/thera-eartha-boots-ladies-232013 . I bought a pair of Doctor Scholl fitness walkers last weekend, and OH MY GOODNESS they are fantastic, they have a lot of gel in the soles and are nearly bouncy.
