Are bits of my feet really connected to different bits of my body?

A very inelegant way of putting it, I know.

I visit reflexologists very frequently and it helps my poor circulation a lot. But will prodding my instep cruelly with a knuckle influence my lungs? Does squeezing my little toe rejuvenate my sinuses? Is it all bullshit?

I don't claim to understand it, but reflexology did seem to help my migraines, when done regularly.

It's placebo.
There is not one shred of evidence that your little toe is connected to your sinuses.
Similarly, your iris doesn't represent your health (beyond a few very specific things), sticking a needle in your earlobe can't turn a breech baby, etc etc.
But you get a good feeling from being looked after and attended to and that brings benefits.

It is all Bullshit. It's a nice foot massage with a bit of caring talk is all.

It's not even ancient - it's less than 100 years old - see here

If you don't mind paying money to indulge as long as you don't think it's medically therapeutic that is fine but I think a Thai Foot Massage is generally better and cheaper. And you don't have to indulge anyone's 'doctor' fantasies at the same time.

Yes, when I fart my little toe wiggles.

In all seriousness I think this is actually true, I mean... it's odd but I have always read about it as being very based in fact....

DinahRod · 05/10/2010 14:33

If I have a headache I also have achey feet and a good foot rub, esp the toes, sorts me out, but I don't by into reflexology as a 'science'

seenyertoeslately · 05/10/2010 14:36

'One reason foot massage may be so pleasurable and is associated with significant improvement in mood is that the area of the brain that connects to the foot is adjacent to the area that connects to the genitals.' Oh.Blush

Have only ever had Thai and Chinese foot massages - maybe will try the UK variety next time I am back there.

I think it is rubbish. But I often have it done as I never see 'Foot Massage' at salons. It is either full body or reflexology. I bloody love have my feet rubbed :)

seenyertoeslately · 05/10/2010 14:43

Thank you for all your opinions - I'm quite surprised nobody is giving any credence to it. I bloody love having my feet rubbed as well.

It's not at all based on fact, science or anything else. It's complete and utter woo. The reflexologists can't even agree on what bits of your feet do what and how it's supposed to work.

its an expensive load of bollocks
