Does anyone else have an excitable bladder?

I often feel the need to urinate, yet when I go to the loo there's barely a trickle. And I still feel like I need to go. After several urine tests/examinations for prolapse etc, my doc said he thinks I have an excitable bladder and that it could be linked to my IBS. Great. Does anyone else have it? And how can I train my bladder? (Because it is driving me freaking mad!!!)

Oooo I do this! I have to go to the loo all the time, sometimes productive, sometimes not. Sometimes I go, stand up, sit down and go again. When I go to bed I have to go every 20 mins until I fall asleep. Drives me mental.

Glad I'm not the only one - tea and coffee makes it worse. As does talking about it.....!

YES!!!! Just thinking about it sets it off!!!Freaky, sentient, nemesis bladder!! Tea, eh? Arse. I bloody love tea :(

I always say I've got an irritable bladder chickens - it's always worse after sex or during a period. Mornings are worse for some reason, I have to go at least 3 times in the first hour after waking.

Sex is evil with this. There's no romantic loving cuddles afterwards in this house - I'm straight into the bathroom getting upclose and personal with the loo seat!

And yes, tea or coffee is a killer. As maresedotes says, I'm so glad I'm not the only one.

Yip, you can maybe train your bladder out of this, but it takes a lot of patience. The basis is that you try to 'hold on' longer before answering the call to wee.
Sometimes I think foods affect me, anything with a lot of potassium in it - i.e bananas, tomatoes, slim fastBlush. Caffeine deffo makes it much worse for me and I sometimes think I get the urgency thing and frequent wees before my period.
I've had a lot of investigations over the years without a diagnosis, but have tried bladder calming pills vesicare, they work for some folks, I think they are an anti-spasmodic thingie to dull the sensation of needing to go. Maybe worth a try? They make your mouth and everything feel dry though.

You might like to read things on www.cobfoundation.org

Reducing intake of tea coffee, alcohol and acidic drinks like fruit juice can help.

You may have a touch of overactive bladder .

I have the same thing. My bladder has been my nemesis for as long as I can remember. I wake up to wee twice a night (more if I drink anything after 6pm), and need to go every half hour if I have anything to drink. Even if I drink nothing the longest I can go is 1.5 hours.

My mum took me to the GP about it when I was about 14 and they did lots of tests before concluding there was nothing wrong Hmm

It really affects everything........I can't go anywhere if i don't know there will be a toilet to hand, and long journeys are a nightmare.

Erm, rather embarassed now. It seems that this bout of bladder misbehaviour is down to a kidney infection. As you were

I've always needed to wee often-so does my mum although as she;s now 88 think that can be excused! But driving me nuts lately and can sympathise with the bedtime comments.Even declined doing a charity hike with mates recently as worried about where and how often I would need to relieve myself.Otherwiswe fit and healthy and don;t overdo the teas and coffees-daren't!It gets me down lately and just going through menopause -early stages -so maybe that's not helping.Sure it;s becoming psychological also cos I now worry about wether I ca hang on if at theatre, out socialising etc. What a pain!
