any tips for helping a baby to breathe at night with a bad cold?. his nose is blocked, and his usual way to settle down, ie, using a dummy, is a bit difficult at the moment.

It depends on the age of the baby but I always used Karvol sprinkled on an inaccessible fabric

You can also create a steamy atmosphere with or without a vaporsier

oops, forgot to mention, he's 14wks.

I think Karvol is OK for 3 months plus just put some on a cloth and hang over the cot out of reach but within breathing distance, you can also put some in boiling water in a safe place or use a vaporiser with or without tablets.

You may be able to use nasal drops or a chest rub like Vick (but check with pharmacist)

You may find shorter more frequent feeds are demanded too.

Suck it out. Then spit it in a tissue.
If you can't face that, I believe there is some sort of snot sucker available in Baby's R Us. Someone mentioned it on another thread.
I find babies noses will often clear when they feed as the milk splashes up the nose.

Good luck.

i've been using a karvol vaporiser that you plug into a plug socket and it sends the karvol into the vaporiser ... seems to be helping my little man

Try this thread for advice plus the link to 'aspirators' - the snot sucking thing. I've seen them in Boots.

Good luck with it
