I had a mirena coil put in approx 4-5 months ago had a copper one before that, over the last few months i have felt myself go steadily down, I hold down a job but thats about it, I hate having to walk to school to pick up dd incase I have to speak to any other parents i just want to stay home- I am home alone now as didnt want to do anything today so everyone has gone out as they didnt want to be home!. I have been so close to finishing with my partner who i was so so happy with before..

Was just wondering if it could be down to the coil as nothing else has changed.

yes, I think it's possible. It's hormonal contraception so it can affect some people in the way you describe (this is me not talking as a medical professional but as someone who had the mirena and it made me feel utterly awful - physically awful as well as everything else!).

Thanks for replying, I really wish the nurse had not managed to perswade me to have the mirena, my periods are not so heavy but they seem to last so long now.

yes that's what it did for me. I bled and bled and bled. I felt awful on it, got cover in a horrible rash almost like boils, got headaches and also just felt dreadful.

They kept telling me to let it settle down but one day, I just felt like i was getting near the day when wouldn't be able to actually get out of bed so walked into the surgery and insisted they remove it.

Was the best decision I ever made!

sorry, typing too quickly
got covered
and when I wouldn't be able to

Yes it could be

I got a mirena inserted last September a few months after having my ds

My mood went from being a 7 or 8 out of 10 to a 5 or 6. I found fault with my dh all the time. I found it hard to cope.

Went to get it removed and was told the coil was not the problem, then they couldnt find it so I was told I was unprotected and still had the moods.

Eventually got it removed in May and haven't looked back.

I feel so relieved that this may be the problem, but a bit worried that i may have to insist that they take it out, I had it put in at my GP surgery but may try and go to the family planning clinic- can anyone any age go to these clinics?

I would certainly suspect the Mirena coil. It made me seriously depressed.

PaulineCampbellJones · 03/10/2010 16:43

Same here, I was very very down when I first had it put in. Then it evened out after a couple of months.

Not good for me either, I was moody and teary, and gained lots of weight. I felt permanently hormonal and a little bit pregnant - sore breasts etc.

Now have a copper one and feel much much better. Not sure why there is such a conspiracy of silence surrounding the Mirena - my GP was also adamant it wasn't causing my symptoms. It was!!

chocolatespiders · 04/10/2010 21:34

great news-- I spoke to my doctor today and i am having it removed tomorrow.. cant wait.. not sure what to use instead.. any suggestions would be great.

I moved onto Cerazette mini pill after having DD. (Had mirena before getting pregnant) It has been pretty good so far.
