You can have clear skin...a support thread for those who want rid of spots

I've been meaning to start this for ages. Following the success I and a number of other MNers have had with the acne.org regime, it's time we had our own thread. Sign up here if you've got spots you want rid of, or pimply teens needing help. I am planning to go through the steps of the regime (it's pretty easy and above all cheap). Also feel free to discuss other methods.

I have been using the regime for 3 weeks. Was a rocky first couple of weeks skin was really flaky for a while but am using the full amount of 2.5% now. I read through the stuff on the acne.org website throughly as I have kind of tried using B.P before and never really had any success. I have been following the regime religiously, being really gentle, only 10 sec of cleansing waiting between B.P application and moisturising. I have checked all ingredients on the products i am using and avoided teh things the regime says to avoid.

For the first time in 15 years my skin is spot free and feels lovely, the only other time this has happened is when i have been on Roaccutane (3 lots over the years)

I really think you have to follow each step and make sure your products are right.
The step by step guide is here

Still not sure how to take my make up off just using moisurizer just now but need to find something better.

I've ordered the Panoxyl & also a new cleanser & moisturiser for the regime - as soon as it arrives, I'll be starting. & not a moment too soon, as my worsening skin is beginning to make me want to hide my head in a paper bag when I go out :(

It's really good to read some success stories :)

BridesheadRegardless · 01/11/2010 15:15

I'm going to try this.

I've been doing OCM and it's made my spots worse.

i'm off to buy the panoxyl aquagel, i'll let you know how it goes.

RespectTheDoughnut · 02/11/2010 15:29

Right, just started today. I'll keep you updated :)

BridesheadRegardless · 02/11/2010 17:48

I started last night. It felt weird using a moisturiser I never use a moisturiser. I'm using dermalogica Active Moist hope that's OK.

Skin is a bit tight and dry today, I feel I want to exfoliate!! But cab't I know.

Thanks for starting ths thread Anyfule.

Himalaya · 02/11/2010 20:25

Right panoxyl arrived today, so getting started.

Anyfule (or anyone...)

Do you do what it says on the Acne.org website of washing with the showerhead twice a day - or is it ok to just wash gently?

Do you rub the stuff in or just leave it to soak in?

Yes, I agree using moisturiser is very alien...

Ta.

I have used this regime for aout 2 months now and RARELY get spots anymore!! is AMAZING.

I just wash with soap and water, no fancy cleanser here Grin

briefcasewanker · 03/11/2010 09:17

Anyone who ordered the panoxyl online, where did you buy it from?

Himalaya · 03/11/2010 09:31

Pharmacy2u.co.uk - came in a couple of days

briefcasewanker · 03/11/2010 09:49

thanks himalaya Smile

RespectTheDoughnut · 03/11/2010 11:46

Shockingly, after one day, my skin is already better. It's not good, but it is genuinely better. My face feels oddly numb (a bit like after a dental injection!) but I don't have any flakiness yet & some of the spots are clearing up. This is the fastest change to my skin I've had from anything - I hope it continues & doesn't suddenly falter like some things do. I certainly wasn't expecting any difference just yet.

DreamsInBinary · 03/11/2010 12:59

I started with the Panoxyl this week. Skin a bit flaky in the zones, and the wait whilst I rub the stuff in drives me cuckoo, but no new spots, and the existing ones look far less angry.

Himalaya · 04/11/2010 21:19

Ack. All red and scaly. Got a work trip next week, going to have to take a break or I will look too scary. Will try again later.

Lauree · 05/11/2010 22:21

Can I join up please?
acne rosacea at 44 years old. seriously had enough of it. I just want to look healthy, not (you said it SiB!) like a druggie or heavy drinker.

I have my own theories ( that mine's a candida infection connected to chronic mouth ulcers and infected toenails)

and I recently paid to see a Harley St dermatoligist, and have just stated using cream he recommended... not long enough for results to show yet, so if it looks promising I'll tell you more.

preciousmum · 05/11/2010 23:08

Hi.
Sorry i don't want to disapointe.I am 30 years old,and I did use a product that i have purchased on line,it is called "proactive"and it is a Benzoyl Peroxide product.I received the cleansing, the lotion, night and day cream, and a musk that i use twice a week, the whole thing cost me around £50.At the first few month it worked fantastic ,everyone notice the deffirence. But now is not working for me anylonger.I have just sent a new tread about Chris Gibson's acne Treatment Program .has any one heard about it?Thanks.
PS: sorry English is not my first language.

moajab · 05/11/2010 23:21

I've been doing the regime for nearly a month now and am still very pleased. I did get a few spots just after my last period but they disappeared faster than any spots I've known! Am now back to virtually clear skin. I'm using the full dose now and still get a little flakiness but i find that after moisturising it's not noticable.
I got my panoxyl from www.chemistdirect.co.uk and it was £4.79 for two tubes.

AnyFuleKno · 29/12/2010 21:15

Hello all, haven't checked in for a bit. How is everyone doing?

Himalaya, sorry to hear you went scaly! Did you try again? You might need to use a bit less gel to start with.

lauree how are you getting on?

ceebeegeebies · 31/12/2010 21:58

Anyfulekno Was lurking on here the other night - have ordered the stuff from a chemist and it should be delivered next week so I am going to start. I do have a few questions though.

Firstly, if you are only doing the Regimen at night for the first week, what do you do in the morning? Nothing or just the cleanser/moisturiser part of it?

Secondly, how do you know when and to how much to increase the dosage of the benzoyl stuff?

Thirdly, once your skin is clear, do you continue doing the Regimen forever?

Fourthly, I only get spots on my chin, neck, and forehead so do I only put the benzoyl stuff on these areas or do I cover my whole face/neck anyway?

Your photos are great and has really spurred me on to do something Smile

sungirltan · 02/01/2011 21:57

marking place - hows it going now?

youremindmeofthebabe · 03/01/2011 17:29

Right, I'm gonna join you. My spots are mostly angry red under the skin lumps, so i'll give it a go. Slightly sceptical cos i'm 30 now, and been doing everything I can for 15 years.

But i'm hopeful!

BrightSideOfLife · 07/01/2011 14:54

I swear by this regime - I have been using it for about 6 months and it has transformed my skin (makes me sound like I work for them or something!!!)

My skin is an annoyinbg blend of sensitive & dry (So red and irritated) but also prone to huge blind spots around my chin & jaw.

I wash my face with a very mild cleanser (At the moment Avene Ultra Rich Cleansing Gel), then apply the Panoxyl 2.5, then a really rich moisturiser (At the moment the Weleda Wild Rose Hydrating Lotion) and then a little later (When I put my make-up on) I wear a tinted moisturiser. The 'double layer' of moisturiser seems to make a massive difference.

The one thing I would say is that the regime seems to have increased my sensitivity to the sun so I make sure that my moisturisers have a good SPF in (Or to wear an additional SPF in the summer.)

ceebee I think you are meant to apply it all over your face, regardless of where you get spots. Obviously avoid the sensitive eye area. I always use two blobs of Panoxyl, so about two 'pea sized' amounts and it works fine.
