Normal for first post baby period to be VERY heavy?!

This is my fourth baby - he's rising 6 months old, so it's been a while since I had a period, but it arrived yesterday and I'm having to change a heavy night time pad every 2 hours or I'm leaking - is this normal? Will it settle down? I really don't remember them being this bad with the other three.

Hi I think it sounds normal - my first few were quite heavy - settling down now. I used the biggest tampon & pads at night & still leaked! Maybe it gets worse with each pregnancy - sure mine was worse second time round

yep, normal. I had my first post DD2 period last month and it was really heavy. I had to send DH out to buy maternity pads in the end and was soaking through them in an hour. I'm feeling distinctly pre-menstrual today and I'm really hoping this one is lighter!

Mine was complete disaster, very heavy - quite frightening, actually. And was visiting dh's relatives, cue swift departure home!

Am going through this right now, first period 9mnths after DS3. I've always ever had light periods before, in fact this has come as a bit of a shock to the system and I feel like a teenager having her first period (not a mum of three) because I'm struggling to deal with it, I want to hide under the duvet until it's over.

I hope it doesn't stay this heavy but perhaps this is what happens with time and babies. Sending virtual Malteesers your way! Grin

Thanks everyone - I was a bit freaked out as they've never been this bad before, and there is a history of ovarian cancer in my family so any sort of abnormality scares me witless!!

But, you've all reassured me, thank you.

And thanks for the virtual Malteasers - DH has been tasked with buying real dark chocolate on his way home, as it's obviously vital right now, due to the high iron content Grin.
