How long can my DD stop eating

She is 11months and I think she is teething. When I put her in her highchair she cries and refuses food. It is obvious that she is hungry. She will only eat her soya cheese and drink her formula.

Even after I have given her ibuprophen or calpol she seems in less pain but is still not interested in solids. She takes a few spoons or bites and then refuses.

Who should I speak to about this if it continues? Particularly as most of our HV are worse than useless.

There may be other things contributing. I seem to have hit a low patch and keep crying over nothing much. DH tries to make light of how I feel but I just want to be on my own right now but can't. Also she is having settling in sessions at nursery (these appear to be going well despite the food problem) She has only been for upto 2hrs so far.

I am seriously concerned particularly as I am 9weeks pg and will have to do all this again.

Thanks for any advice.

The attitude I would take is any food is better than none. Therefore, could you try soft things that wont aggrivate her teethy pegs.
Yoghurts, soft cheese sandwiches etc.

Hopefully the low patch is just the hormones of the pregnancy, sory your DH is making light of it.

hi beabea, my ds is 15 months and he also stops eating when teething. i find that yogurts and ice cream are pretty much all that i can get down him. i know its not exactly a healthy diet but for the sake of a week or two i dont think he will come to any long term harm and at least he isnt hungry then.

dont really know who you can speak to other than dr or hv. would leave it until she seems in less pain and if it continues after that, get help. otherwise its probably jut one of those things.

hi Beabea,
poor little thing, it sounds as though she is having a bad patch. as Springchicken says, can you try other soft foods? Maybe sit her on your lap for a few days, and offer soup in a spoon, or mashed potato or froobs or something else liquidish. My gut feeling is that day or two of just cheese and milk won't do any harm, but if it carried on, I would probably take her for a checkup with the doctor, just in case.

Don't worry about the next baby - they are never the same. you'll have a whole load of fresh, different things to worry about next time round! Hope you feel better soon.

Springchicken - DH is trying to jolly me along rather than make light of it.

I have tried soft food, also she cant eat dairy. She does eat soya yoghurts and she hasnt quite got the hang of sandwiches. We keep trying though.

Gigglingoblin - thanks I shall try and see this through and be thankful that she is nibbling.

Nightnight - thanks will try to follow all the suggestions.

Thanks for the support.

Thanks
