i can move top half - shoulders/arms.

brufen/paracetamol not touched it. waiting emergency gp call.

got to be fit for tomorrow, having my nosed straightened after injury couple weeks ago.

What were you doing when it got hurt?

I've done this before, moving a bookcase (still full of books). Went to a&e and they gave me a jag in the backside and I was fine.

Think it was some kind of muscle relaxant they gave me- I got some tablets to take home too, but didn't need them.

tethersend · 26/09/2010 15:10

Call an osteopath. Not cheap, but they may be able to manipulate your back so you have a bit more movement... They will be able to diagnose you accurately in any case...

pinkbasket · 26/09/2010 15:11

I saw an osteopath and it was £35 ish so not too dear.

Hope you feel better soon.

PavlovtheCat · 26/09/2010 15:14

i think it might have twinged in the night when i picked ds up from cot, but then fine. then late this morning/lunch time i picked ds up from bed, as i leant to pick him up, not far at all i felt an immense burning pain, then it 'went' and came back and 'went' and was ok for about 1 our, then suddenly i was half sanding from chair and that was it, it took me 45 mins to get from kutchen to bedroom, then 15 mins onto the bed, absolute agony.

PavlovtheCat · 26/09/2010 15:16

can you see an eosteopath on a sunday? that will cost dearly if so. not til friday!

OP posts:
PavlovtheCat · 26/09/2010 15:17

and when i say 45 mins from kichen to bedroom, they are on same level.

You have my sympathy!!! Same thing keeps happening to me... Sad

Depends on what you've actually done to your back (muscles or nerves)- but diclofenac or codeine/paracetamol should help with the pain. Get your DP down to the chemist for some pronto! A deep-heat type rub can also help.
ps only take codeine when you need to as it's an opioid
pps don't take a hot bath as the heat can aggravate muscle inflammation..

Hope you feel better soon!

HermanTheGerman · 26/09/2010 15:21

I did something like that once turning over in my sleep. We got an emergency doctor round to the house (not in the UK so different health system) who gave me a whopping injection of diclofenac. That solved it enough to get me moving again without it being agony, and then I took a few diclofenac tablets for a day or two. An infra-red light helped too.

I see osteopathy as more of a 'long-term getting to grips with the causes' kind of thing rather than 'emergency getting moving again' solution.

PavlovtheCat · 26/09/2010 15:21

cant have codeine as i am bf Sad

EccentricaGallumbits · 26/09/2010 15:22

ICE. and hopefully doc can give you hefty painkillers and muscle relaxant types.

PavlovtheCat · 26/09/2010 15:23

will a doc give a nice injection of something on nhs? doubt it!

can i take diclofenac while bfing?

OP posts:
PavlovtheCat · 26/09/2010 15:23

oh ice/good idea. if i cant get into the right position!

OP posts:
UltimateNachos · 26/09/2010 15:25

Gah - just read that you shouldn't take diclofenac either if you are bf...sorry.....

Burning pain suggests nerve injury - make sure to specify that to GP as treatment is different.

Hope GP comes to your rescue soon xx

UltimateNachos · 26/09/2010 15:27

BUT you may be able to use diclofenac as a gel rather than tablets as would imagine less would be absorbed into your milk....only guessing though, GP should be able to advise

PavlovtheCat · 26/09/2010 15:34

ok just spoken to gp, he is sending codiene to pharmacy, said to take paracetamol/ibruprofen/codeine and codiene is fine when breastfeeding under gp guidance.

PavlovtheCat · 26/09/2010 15:36

Shock i need a wee !

OP posts:
PavlovtheCat · 26/09/2010 16:48

omg that would have been highly comical if not so bloody painful.

My DD gets a treat (a little miss pet shop or something else on offer or bogof in supermarket!) when she gets 5 smiley faces. She gets smiley faces for doing something extra special, or good. example - she got one this week for eating all her messy dinner with her knife and fork, did not use her fingers once and did not spill any down her front at all. That is a big thing for her, and she did it without being reminded to use them either, so she got a smiley face. anyway i am going on about this as she has been a superstar this afternoon when dh was out (had to call for him to come back home) and while he was out at pharmacy. She has earnt ALL the other four stars today. She has shown compassion, empathy and how grown up she can be this afternoon, amazed me. When i was, at one point lying on my back in the hallway, she said 'mama, would a pillow help you?' and when ds bounced on me laughing and I laughed at the hopelessness of it all, she said 'mama does DS laughing make you feel better? shall i dance for you?' and proceeded to try to make me laugh...she ran around getting me the phone, passing me pillows. I love my little girl.

As you can see, i am now able to type two handed. I am on my back, which took a humungous grit of teeth, then a titan type screech and heave onto my back!

Then, 5 mins ago, two codeine, and am waiting for it to kick in.

EccentricaGallumbits · 26/09/2010 17:02

have you got the ice? peas or other mixed veg will do.

PavlovtheCat · 26/09/2010 17:04

no ice yet, poor dh has been running around like a headless chicken as it is getting me this and that, sorting the children out, doing housework. I will ask him when he next walks past, rather than holler at him again.

If i manage to have this procedure in the hospital tomorrow he is going to do a lot more running around after me, so don't want to make him resent me too early!

Glad the family are looking after you Smile

Is your prescription for codeine or for co-codamol (codeine with paracetamol)?
If for codeine only, take paracetamol at the same time - it acts to 'enhance' the effects of codeine.
Also, advance warning that codeine may make you constipated Wink.
