All mine have come through now but I had pain on and off for about 6months until they eventually came right through. They intermittantly bled too and also gave me a bit of earache too.

You might still be best off getting it checked out at the dentist to rule out any infection but they can be quite painful infection or not I'm afraid.

Prettybird · 06/09/2005 15:28

I got earache with mine, caused by the pressure. Plus I started to get recurring infections, as they partially erupted and then had no room to go anywhere.

Had them all taken out.

Tommy · 06/09/2005 15:33

had all mine taken out under general anaesthetic (sp?) - I couldn't open my mouth fully when they were all in ther - and they were very painful

northerner · 06/09/2005 15:39

I'm having all of mine out this month.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 06/09/2005 15:40

what age do they usually all come through?

Im 23 and only got half of one at the moment!

I've had 3 of mine removed. They were all impacted and just got more and more painful, repeated infections etc. The fourth has come through fine thankfully.

Do go to the dentist to get them checked out.

Prettybird · 06/09/2005 15:48

I was 25 when I had mine taken out: the bottom two had partially erupted, but got stuck and and the top two were totally blocked from coming out (you could only see them on x-ray - and could see that there was nowhere for them to go). They took all 4 out under general anaesthetic.

northerner · 06/09/2005 15:49

For those of you who had them removed under GA how were you afterwards? I'm having 4 out under GA on 21 Sept Am a bit aprehensive.

puff · 06/09/2005 15:53

northerner, the last one I had out (9 months ago) was pretty bad - in bed for 4 days, had to go to hospital for pethidine the first night. But, the dentist warned me it would be bad in comparison to previous extractions which were done about 15 years ago - the older you are the the more nasty it tends to be.

Ulysees · 06/09/2005 15:54

Thanks for the replies. Mine is upper left and there is room for it to come through as I had to have the tooth beneath it removed. I managed to get in to see my dentist in the morning which is amazing as it usually takes ages.

Glad it's got space to come through Ulysees .

Prettybird · 06/09/2005 16:00

Northerent - mine was nearly 20 years ago (!) si it may be different now. I spent two night in hospital, whereas nowadays I suspect it would be done under day surgery.

I was a bit sore on the day (can remember cursing the hospitla for serving up thick slices of ham to a ward full of people who had had their wisdom teeth out), but within three days had very little swelling - to the extenet that only people who knew me would have known that my face wasn't "right". I think I was lucky though.

Did need to eat soft foods for a while as my mouth was somewhat tender. It finally got me to eat conrflakes/breakfast ceral with milk - up until then I had always eaten them dry!

northerner · 06/09/2005 16:04

Hmmmm. Worrying even more now. So a few days off work are in order then?

Lio · 06/09/2005 16:11

Hi Ulysees, had them taken out under general anaesthetic as a day patient, was advised to take a week off work but actually felt like a fraud by day 3. Good luck!

Prettybird · 06/09/2005 16:22

I had mine done up in Scotland, even though I lived and worked down in the South East. (Long waiting lists dwon South, and I was still on my dentisit's list in Glasgow, plus it meant that I could recuperate with my Mum & Dad).

From memory, I had it done on a Wednesday, went home on Thursday, relaxed on Friday and drove back down south on Saturday (even went to a party en route) and was back at work on the Monday.

I do think you should take a couple of days at least off work: the general does wipe you out.

northerner · 06/09/2005 16:25

Thanks guys. Sorry to hijack your thread Ulysees. Hope you don't get any more trouble.

kath4kids · 06/09/2005 16:25

Ulysees · 06/09/2005 16:29

thanks northerner u weren't hijacking though hun

At present it feels as if something is trying to escape from the roof of my mouth but can't decide whether to come through the roof, my ear or my cheekbone! Oh, or knock my teeth out first and then come through

been to dentist and it's my sinuses not my wisdom tooth. He says I need refering to ENT so I'll try to get to see my GP tomorrow as she's away next week. I'll camp out first thing and try to get an appointment.

Mine were all taken out under general anaesthetic when I was 18. The bottom ones were growing along the gum, towards the front of my mouth. Didn't experience much pain from them, but would have done, I'm sure, if they'd been left!

I'd have them taken out if it's painful.

hunkermunker · 07/09/2005 14:41
