Ah I know about this - you probably have follicle mites (dermodex) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demodex

Do not fret, they are very common. But yucky.

(perhaps you could try the same Wink)

southeastastra · 23/09/2010 21:13

ew how would i have got that! it's not the eyelashes just lids

The best way I found to get rid of this is to make a weak solution of baby shampoo and cooled down boiled water and clean eyelids with cotton wool soaked in it. I went through all sorts of creams and potions before my GP suggested this.

whomovedmychocolate · 23/09/2010 21:17

Yes flashcards, you are actually killing the mites because they eat sebum and you are getting rid of the sebum with the shampoo. It's the poo they produce which causes the itching and flaking. nice. Wink

southeastastra · 23/09/2010 21:19

ew is this really true? how would i have caught them? i did alot of swimming on holiday and it seems to have started then :S

Or it could be a reaction to something - are you using any new make-up or creams etc?

whomovedmychocolate · 23/09/2010 21:21

Yup. Well they are always about but when you get all hot and sweaty, your skin produces more oil and they reproduce madly. So they can become a problem. They are really interesting creatures. You are so lucky.

tethersend · 23/09/2010 21:23

It could be blepharitis. I had it for ages a few years ago, my eyelids were really flaky and often sore- always itchy, then started doing as flashcards suggests and bathing my eyes with a mixture of boiled water and baby shampoo (on doctor's recommendation). I also changed brands of all my make up and moisturiser. It went within a week and has never returned.

flashcards · 23/09/2010 21:26

eurgh I didn't know that! Shock nasty little things. I think I was slack about washing eye make up off or something, not sure really...was ages ago

MorningGloria · 23/09/2010 21:28

I'm ignoring all the above posts about bugs living in my eyes(bugs in my eyes?! Bug shit in my eyes!! Shock) and am suggesting it could be a touch of eczema, like I get. Easily treated with a 0.1% hydracortisone ointment(not a cream, an ointment) available from the GP or possibly OTC, not sure.

southeastastra · 23/09/2010 21:28

i will try the baby shampoo method, this is awful wish i'd never asked though Wink

using same creams etc unless garnier ultra lift has changed it's ingredients

OP posts:
whomovedmychocolate · 23/09/2010 21:29

Ooh you'll be amazed how many creatures live on you. It's fascinating. Grin

southeastastra · 23/09/2010 21:30

ah an ointment, what is the difference between a cream and an oitment?

OP posts:
southeastastra · 23/09/2010 21:30

can i not use vosene? have vats of that

OP posts:
whomovedmychocolate · 23/09/2010 21:32

DO NOT PUT VOSENE NEAR YOUR EYES!

southeastastra · 23/09/2010 21:32

blimey that made me jump - why not?

OP posts:
whomovedmychocolate · 23/09/2010 21:34

Sorry, caps lock stuck.

Because it's got evergreen oil in. It will sting the hell out of your eyes. You will add red, burned eyelids to your complaint!

whomovedmychocolate · 23/09/2010 21:34

Wintergreen, not evergreen. Duh! Blush

TheNextMrsDepp · 23/09/2010 21:34

Chuck out all your old eye make-up and wash all your make-up brushes! Mascara and eye shadow harbour all sorts of nasties, particularly if they've been festering in your make-up bag for a long time.

I get itchy/flaky eye-lids every now and then, and it always clears up as soon as I do this.

MorningGloria · 23/09/2010 21:38

Ointment is greasy and cream is...erm....creamy. Smile

southeastastra · 23/09/2010 21:38

i wash my brushes alot and don't really wear eyeshadow much anyway. it's really annoying trying to pinpoint what it is. been since middle of august, itches then dries to really horrible dry skin

i will try the baby shampoo definitely

ah evergreen must be the nice smell vosene has. you're very knowledgeable wwmc!

TanteAC · 23/09/2010 21:43

Do you use touch eclat YSL? I had this too and my sis suddenly asked me this same question! Have been using it for years so didn't think it was that, left it at a friend's a couple of weeks ago and haven't replaced it yet and ta daa! Two weeks later my eyelids are no longer lizard-like!

Just a thought...and nice that bug sh*t x

southeastastra · 23/09/2010 21:57

no, seems to be close in that the nose area more than anywhere else too

OP posts:
Sanesometimes1 · 27/09/2010 23:15

Use E45 cream on cotton wool to take off eye make up ( use it even if not using), PUT NOTHING ELSE on them and I guarantee this will cleqr in a week.
