A Madame with psoriasis!!!

I have psoriasis - well am pretty sure that is what it is.

Thing is I have it in a bit of a sensitive area - a small patch in my down there hair!!

Itches like hell - like little ants running around (no there are no creatures!) anyway have found the best remedy after seeing god knows how many specialists and using different creams is to shave off hair and then exfoliate but it is painful (shaving off the hair helps with the itching as I think it is the actual hairs moving that causes it to falre up) when I exfoliate so thought I would ask you ladies what to put on it. Id there some sort of magic oil for psoriasis or something that will help with the horrid dry itchiness of it?

Hate it - really makes me feel yucky and it has been goign on for about 6 years now - since I was pregnant with DS!

Sorry if TMI - any ideas much appreciated!

not sure but watching this as I have eczema or something driving me mad too, but there's nothing there no rash and the skin's not even dry but is like you say little ants crawling around until I itch it and once I have it prickles and prickles and prickles until I have to itch it again Sad have tried allsorts and nothing works

Mine also came on after having dd but settled back down within six months of her being born, but flared back up when pregnant with ds and 2 years later I'm still suffering

Sorry I;m no help but just wanted to let you know that I feel your pain Smile

Blimey - thought I was a compete freaky weirdo thinking I actually had ants in my pants - glad you have it too (am not but glad it makes me feel less dirty and horrid as thought maybe something wrong with me personally as had never heard of anyone else having this.)

AM witing for a magic mumsnetter to come up with a magic oil or something that will just get rid of it.

I'd hoped the title might have been a job opening...

I've had psoriasis since I was 6, but my symptoms are quite different, so I doubt I'd be much help. Bog standard betnovate still helps, but I tend not to use it much; ditto a prescription vitamin d cream.

Loads of emollient creams help, as does oiling with non-mineral oils. I get on better if I minimise exposure to sodium laureth sulphate.

And you've been really unlucky - the only time my skin's been more or less clear in adult life is during pg and bf.

MadameCastafiore · 23/09/2010 18:43

No not a job opening - but if you want ot be a madame lots of those sort of people on mumsnet it seems!!!

Do you think if I just asked the doctor for this vitamin D cream he would give it to me?

And this sodium laureth sulphate - what is is? I don;t use any sort of soap anywhere as that irritates it - would I have to stop using shampoo etc too?

Thank you for your suggestions though - am at the stage where I would try anything.

Yes, you need to see a doctor and get the recommended treatment. In the hair can be a bit difficult. I used to have alfosyl (?) then an alcohol based member if the betnovate family but they never seemed to do much good.

SLS is a foaming agent found in just about everything - not really practical to get away from it altogether. I can feel the difference if I use a product with a high level.

There are SLS-free shampoos around (try in Holland and Barrett or other health shops).

Right tomorrow will book a doctors appointment and then on Saturtday will head to H&B. Do they do SLS shampoo and conditioner for highlighted hair??

If you have psoriasis and have any kind of joint pain, then ask your doctor to refer you to a hospital immediately - it's common to have arthritis as a result and the sooner the arthritis is treated, the better. This applies even if you've only ever had a tiny patch of psoriasis.

I just wish my doctor had known this!

try polytar or tgel shampoo or exorex lotion which is tar based
