It was my 7th attempt, but I think I have finally cracked it this time.

I hardly ever get cravings - funnily enough I had a very fleeting urge for a cigarette the other day when I had a glass of wine at lunchtime.

To anyone else still struggling or thinking it would be nice to give up I just want to say please DO IT.

I never ever thought I could actually enjoy life MORE without cigarettes. I always believed I would be more or less permanently trying to keep on top of cravings.

Well, its not true and every single day at some point I remember what I have achieved and think Thank God I Don't Smoke Anymore.

Sorry for my evangelical moment. I only have one once a year Grin.

You are fabulous, I am in awe of you and admire anyone who gives up permenantley. I have had attempts and know what you mean about life being better but I lapse everytime.

Got some duty frees and am thinking once these are gone I will make another attempt.

You are fabulousSmile

It is great when yo truly know you've cracked it and you won't smoke again.

I also gave up after numerous attempts and what amazed me the other day was I couldn't remember whether it was 5 or 6 years ago. When I was giving up, each day, each week, was a milestone and counted and recorded and remembered and I was so proud of every one.
And now, its so much part of my past, I simply cannot remember whether it was August 2004 or 5 Grin

Well done to you and hope this encourages many more to stop.

nameymcnamechange · 20/09/2010 16:28

Yes, do have another go Eve.

Apparently 7 attempts is the average.

I take it you've read the Allen Carr book Smile.

Congratulations to namey - and to me too (addicted to humbugs), must be about six years now and I'm still telling everyone who'll listen how marvellous the free NHS system was

Remotew · 20/09/2010 18:04

Hey Posey, you sound just like me :) I can't remember whether it's 5 or 6 years! But when I had the withdrawal I was counting every second, and suffering horrendously :( Apart from giving birth I would say it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do.....But I am sooo proud of myself for getting through it, as you are too:)
Nicotine is one of the hardest addictions to break, and our bodies have the right to be free of it :) In 28 years I probably tried to stop about 20 times....Until I stopped thinking of cigarettes as my constant "buddies", I was in the wrong mindset to give up. They are not your friends abouteve, they are your mortal enemies :( x
