My history:

Had bad SPD with DS started 2007, after birth, felt better, but SPD never went away.
Have been on and off painkillers since then.
This yr i have been going every other wk to the doctor to complain about my back, hip, and groin pain.
Didn't get a referal for Specialist Phsyiotherapist until i developed parathesia in my feet and numbness in my back, also having migranes and weakness in my right hand etc.,, this is when they started taking me seriously.

So had my appointment the other day with wonderful therapist, and he made an appointment for me to have an MRI in about 6 wks time.
also wants to draw up a plan for pyshio work to be done on my back, build up strength etc
and also talked about possible injections in the back ( cortisol ) for the pain.

What should i be expecting recovery wise?
is it going to get worse before it gets better?
and what about those injections? do they actually work?
he talked briefly about surgery, but has to see what the scan shows etc.

Am frankly a bit scared,, had grown attached to my hobble walk and excuse for not bending down :)

Don't know how much help I can be here, but the injections are steroid injections (I think) and might help (and will be tried before surgery). It is worth trying the physio, but if you are having serious nerve problems, this might not help. Really, you have to see what the scan shows.

IME if the scan shows a disc problem which isn't getting better on its own, it's worth trying surgery. I did, but I was in a very bad way before it was considered. I then had physio and have been fine (virtually) for 8 years. The recovery from surgery is quite quick, but you may still have some nerve damage (I do but in general its nothing like before the operation).

I have all your symptomns apart from migranes and have done for 10 years+, though the numbness in my foot only for the last 2 years.

My MRI shows I have a dry, buldging disc, however its not touching a nerve. I've had the small injections and also the bigger steriod via an epidural injection. Neither helped

No physio or chiropractor has ever helped.

Just seen the consultant again and he ssys he won't operate as the nerve isn't been pressed. He's referring me for an upright MRI incase my disc does touch the nerve on standing but he says its unlikely. He said I have to learn with it as thre is nothing he can do. This is my 2nd opinion.

I hope you have more luck.

I had an injection from the pain clinic which sounds similar to herbietea, after years of assorted treatments. It made no difference at all, but just before he did the injection I was warned it could make migraine worse - and it did, for about a month after, so I'd check.
