Heavy, painful periods, so bad I have to wear a tampon and a towel for the first two days as I flood? Blush Cramps so bad, I'm bent over double and quite bad PMT??

I've spoken to a few people who have one and they swear by it? But I'm unsure, I was given Cerazette by a Gynae for all the above symptoms, it turned me into a loony within three weeks, could Mirena do this?

So please can you tell me ...

What are the good things about it?

What are the bad things about it?

I'm 41, my GP told me when I had children it would make my periods better, I've got a 3 year old and there worse than ever!! Wink

I need to do something, so would appreciated any suggestions?

Thanks

I have one and I love it. It's my second one. Insertion was difficult both times but apart from that I have no complaints, no periods, no pain, no pmt - love it!

I had a mirena coil fitted in October 2008 and since then I haven't had any proper periods. Had a bit of bleeding at the beginning but not really very much.

I was a bit worried having read about it having an effect with some people on depression as I have depressive tendencies but have had no issues with that.

Having it put in was horrible but didn't really last for very long.

It did for me-my periods went on for 3 weeks and I flooded all the time (I have endemetroisis)and now I have a bit of light spotting if anything at all. I think the amount of hormones in a mirena is the same as half a mini pill a week, but some people are really sensitive to any amount of hormones.
Why not try it-it takes a minute for the dr to remove it if you want it out.
