Heart Palpitations and Propranolol

I've had been having heart palpitations for about 5 months.

When it started went straight to GP in panic but she was very reassuring and said it's quite common, nothing to worry about etc. Did blood tests but nothing showed up. She said it was just a sinus arrythmia.

Have been on Propranolol since then in varying doses. Trouble is, I already have low blood pressure and a slow heart rate, so have to be careful of dosage.

Am currently on 2 x 40mg a day but palpitation have started up again. Am going to GP in a couple of days time but in meantime, was wondering what doses other people have or what alteratives they use.

Really know very little about this - for instance, anyone know if letting the heart beat irregularly like this actually does any harm?

Please talk to me about your similar experiences.

I have the same and so does my mam. I was on 20mg of propanolol a day before I got pregnant and haven't started taking them again. My mam has 5mg (I think) tablets which she takes at the onset of palps rather than a daily one.
The only thing about letting them go on is that they tend to make me have a bit of a panic attack.
Hope that helps and you feel better soon!

Palps aren't dangerous. Propranolol is very good, I've been taking it on and off for about 8 years now.

Alternatives which I now use include:

Giving up all caffeine
Taking Passiflora
Taking a combined magnesium/calcium supplement
5htp last thing at night
Cut down on sugar
Avoid artificial sweeteners such as aspartame

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for the reassurance - it's always good to hear from someone who's experienceed it themselves.

I have cut right back on caffeine, Ilovehens, and don't have added sugar or sweetners. Not heard of Passiflora or the benefits of mag/cal - will go away and look it up. Thanks for the suggestions. I have also cut back on alcholol consumption (not that I had much in the first place).

Guess this is something I'll have to get used to living with - do you find yours ever goes away for long periods?
