Does anyone else out there feel like this too ?

I have had RA for 11 years now and you'd think I'd be able to accept that I get stiff and achy joints whenever it rains Sad (which is a lot in the UK Angry)

As well as feeling crap, I get so pissed off when people complain about the wet weather- at least you're not in bloody pain. AAAAARRRRRGGGHHHHHH!!!

Going to the swimming pool later to see if I can loosen up a bit- mentally as well as physically- aqua-aerobics, here I come...

mumofshortie73 - I have a bad arthritic knee that always aches before and during a heavy rain spell. It travels up into my back as I tend to limp and my posture is bad.

Oddly, I find wearing rubber soled shoes and good warm socks helps a lot.

mumofshortie73 · 19/09/2010 10:49

BeenBeta- have you got a rheumatologist ? Must try the rubber soled shoes & warm socks combo !

No I never had treatment but no doubt it will get bad enough for me to do the usual 'bloke self diagnosis' when I cant get out of bed one day and DW loses patience with me. Grin

The rubber soled 'Gentleman's Walking Shoes' were a real revalation.

Thanks Mumof, sorry to hear that your joints flared up so soon after having your babies. Hope that the hospital group is useful.

Can I ask you ladies some advice how would I get the dr to consider if it's RA

I have elhers danlos (joint hypermoblity ) so know there's a risk anyway with fact that joints pop a lot

But have had shoulder pain on and of for 3 years after dislocation and defintley worse on bad weather it's clucking and grinding away

Then top it of have pain in my hip orginally twisted as fell but it's very sore especially in morning am very stiff ,Cant sit down as it hurts in my hip standing is better and as day goes on can bend but still can't sit down legs up or down hurt :(

so wondering if start of RA

mumofshortie73 · 20/09/2010 08:12

Sounds nasty for you, roundthebend4. Does your gp know how much this affects you ? Your hip pain sounds especially horrible,am I right in thinking that's a daily thing, not just when it's bad weather ? I've been told if my sleep is affected by pain or daily chores are harder, it's time to reconsider pain relief. I would go to the gp and ask to have bloods taken, that you are worried it may be RA onset. Sometimes is hard to diagnose, it took 6 months for me to get a diagnosis. In the meantime, look after yourself- there have already been some good suggestions of saunas, warm baths, gentle exercise, pacing yourself, taking Ibuprofen.Hope that helps.

roundthebend4 · 20/09/2010 13:20

Ty did get to see the Drs he came out mentioned RA before I could took some blood. Have got to go for xray to

Have now got diffenic? To see if that helps can I ask how ling it took before you saw any improvements

RunnerHasbeen · 20/09/2010 14:31

Roundthebend, it may be Osteo, if it is in joints that were previously injured - so keep trying to see a consultant, even if blood-work doesn't show much inflammation, that doesn't mean nothing is wrong.

Curly, just start with a little bit of exercise and make sure you don't feel any shame if you leave a class early or sit out any particular exercises. It also helps me to have a variety of interests so there is always something I can do. You might even get gym on prescription if you ask your GP and then somebody can help you specifically. I've been surprised by how much I can do and even how I can often adapt things very easily to make a huge difference (ie my kayak paddle looks very odd to everyone else).

I don't think I deserve any respect for being active, I'm in awe that everyone else here is juggling the onset of RA with a young family. I was 19 and at university when I got ill, I didn't even have myself to look after, back I went to mum and dad Grin.

roundthebend4 · 20/09/2010 14:46

Runner that's always a possiablity know with having EDS my joints can pop in and out and that the tendons and ligaments are extra stretchy anyway

I'm just hoping the anti inflamatrys make differance oh to be able just to sit down be so nice

roundthebend4 · 20/09/2010 14:47

Runner I'm wondering if it would show inflamation now since been on Ibprufoen for a week already

agedknees · 20/09/2010 14:57

Have had to stop taking diclofenac due to them affecting my blood sugars (am diabetic). Am in agony at the moment (left knee).

Anyone out there taking different painkillers that are effective?

mumofshortie73 · 22/09/2010 09:58

I've decided to have a go at the Methotrexate injections as the tablets were really spoiling my Sundays (after taking them Sat night- nausea, exhaustion, upset tummy, general yuckiness. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I won't get any more side effects !!

How is everyone doing with their aches and pains ?!
