If someone has had a heart attack, do they get sent home from hospital in less than 24 hrs ?

DH got a phone call from his bro last night.

He said that their sister had phoned him, saying she had had a heart attack in the middle of the afternoon, and was in hospital.

Anyway, as bro is away on a short break, he phoned DH to ask him to keep track of sister. DH and his sister don't tend to contact each other much, no animosity there (tho there has been in the past), just very little in common.

Anyway, DH has rung the hospital this morning, to find his sis has been discharged. I suspect she has made a drama out of this...

Anyone know.

highly unlikely - more likely is that blood tests came back showing she hadn't had a heart attack so they dischargd her.

I think (from experience with my Mum) that it is not as simple as you have or you haven't in all cases. They waited three days for blood results, and even then it wasn't a definitive answer.

I'd be very surprised if they let them out so quickly.

Actually can happen after blood tests etc from heart attack. My dad had a heart attack recently and they weren't even going to keep him for the night initially but something made them thankfully but that is another story.
Anyway when they gave blood tests and seen his enzyme levels showed small mild attack they did consider not keeping him at all.

Does she suffer from angina? Could it have been an angina attack? Could have been confirmed by bloods and ecgs.

Normally the patient will have an ECG and a blood test to look for levels of troponin, (which is an indicator of damage to the heart muscle, which would be caused by a heart attack) on admission to hospital. They would then have a second blood test 12 hours later. (Troponin levels peak 12hrs after heart attack) If the levels are normal, then patient is discharged. If they are raised, then patient is treated as either a heart attack, or an Acute Coronary Syndrome.
