Haemangioma

I'm new on here and I'd like to hear from anyone else who has a child with a haemangioma. My third dd (now 16 wks) has one on her temple area, about an inch and a half across. It looks like she's had a nasty bump to the head 'cos it's the colour of a bruise, and is quite raised. We have an appointment with the hospital in September, just for confirmation really as I think it will just be left to go away by itself. It was quite a shock at first as the lump didn't begin to appear until she was five weeks old and then grew rapidly, luckily it seems to have slowed down now. Does anyone know when we can expect to see an improvement in this mark, and if it is likely to completely disappear.

My ds had one on his leg when he was born it got bigger in size and became quite raised for about the first 10 to 12 months, after that it began breaking up and fading. Now he is 7 years and since he was about 6 the mark has been virtually unnoticable, teachers at school have commented that he has a patch of eczema on his leg.it is totally smooth,it was about 21/2 inch by 1 1/2 so quite big on his little leg,the docs never mentioned doing anything with it,dont know if this would be the case for your dd as it is on her face, but yes they do fade to almost nothing eventually.HTH

My dd had a haemangioma on her temple and it disappeared completely. I can't remember what age sge was but I think it was between age 1 and 2 yrs. She is 9 yrs now and there is no trace of it at all.

Thanks for your comments, I'm hoping our dds birthmark will disappear before she starts school. Good to know others have gone at an even earlier age.
